I was wrong in my original response to you. Looks like darktable/rawtherapee are getting very close to a true TCA correction. See the Jack Hogan's message just above.

That's really fascinating. A quick look at that code and it appears to be breaking the image down into subblocks, computing shifts necessary on the CFA color components to minimize aberrations ...
-
Darktable's raw CA correction is not transverse chromatic aberration correction. It merely attempts to detect color aberrations due to high contrast edges, (like purple fringing), and fix them.

Dang it! I use 3 dashes all the time in normal email to delinate a new topic or subtopic. Too late to edit the post now.... For anyone reading this, unhide what appears to be my signature to ...

Hi Jack, I haven't posed the question on any of the forums there, but I hit the sites pretty hard looking for any clues, even digging in to source code. libraw doesn't mention TCA at all. I also ...

I saw on another thread you have a lowepro dashpoint 20 for carrying this camera. Do you still like that for a carry option?
-
And now I've decided, it's on the short list, and the list has only one camera! Thanks for your input.

Thanks again Chris. I'm going to pull the trigger on the g1x m3. I have to check on the shipping because UPS damages 1 in 3 packages sent to us -- very badly. So hopefully canon can ship ...

I think it's a combination of things -- there is a small crack in the body -- probably my fault but an entry point for small dust. The camera often now won't detect the shutter press, won't stay ...

Great to hear that! That is a helpful, thanks for that info. I forgot to ask about a lens hood. I usually use my hand for sun glare, but forgot to ask about a more "permanent" solution. Thanks ...

My Sony rx100ii is on its last legs after almost 14,000 shots. So I've been considering a replacement. I hike and backpack a lot, so size and weight are extremely key considerations. This time ...
