ttran88: Personally would skip these striped down dslrs and recommend upgrading your smartphone to the latest cameras like Google Night Sight. These dslrs are more than likely to collect dust in the closet after your vacation and the photo quality is no better than your smartphone. You will find it big and a hassle to take it everywhere with you.

Are all of you crazy? do any of you own a DSLR or ever owned one? saying this is trash compared to a smartphone is plain idiotic.

Are you crazy? I have the latest iPhone and a Rebel SL1 and the iPhone
is pure garbage compared to this thing.

Ebrahim Saadawi: It's bad press to say I AM DELETING YOUR PHOTOS. I actually worry more for Flickr than I do for my a couple of thousands photos.

Same here, my thoughts exactly. The word "deleting" makes me more nervous for Flickr than the photos I might lose also. Horrible PR if you ask me.

JeffUlti: I'm very disappointed by this release. I was in the process of maybe upgrading to FF and I was almost about to start announcing my Fuji gear online.

But seeing how Nikon dropped the ball (so so AF, battery life??, one card slot?!?!?!!), as well as the pricing of the 50mm (600$ for a 1.8 nifty fifty???) made me change my mind.
And since I doubt Nikon will release a new camera every year, I'm guessing we'll only know in "at least" two years what they will bring next :(

So now I'm stuck with Sony (or maybe the APS-C X-T3)because for some reason I doubt Canon will introduce something much better. I think they will also cripple their mirrorless somehow.
Maybe I'll wait a few months just to see how Canon manages to disappoint also.
Arg...what did you do Nikon?

You aren't stuck with anything, its your money do whatever you want.

Meanwhile, millions globally continue to spend over 1k on the latest iPhone and smile when they pay for it. Gotta love the fake outrage over the price of the Note 9.

Mark B.: I won't be paying a grand for a smartphone no matter what. I'll wait for this to be released and replace my Note 4 with a much-discounted Note 8.

Love all the asshats posting here saying I won't buy it lol so don't buy. Samsung is a multi-billion dollar global corporation, they don't need your poor ass money. Meanwhile, millions globally continue to spend over 1k on the latest iPhone and smile when they pay for it. Gotta love the fake outrage over the price.

Are Samsung really THAT stupid? Who's the CEO - Ed Wood?

Yeah, they will sell millions of units worldwide pretty stupid company right, what an asshat comment.

Yeah keep on bitching about the price, the trillion dollar sales mark Apple recently posted tells me all the bitching is fake since a huge chunk of that trillion dollars came from iPhones sold worldwide.

All I need to know os $1200 + tax = joke what fool would drop $1200 +tax on a pocket camera? This camera is not worth a penny over $450 and honestly, I feel that's high given the fact other then the zoom reach and modern-day iPhone is probably a better buy. Flame away but hey that's my opinion.. for walk around fun shots the price is crazy. No one os using this for pro work.

Amazon.com : Sony a7 Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Camera with 28-70mm Lens : Compact System Digital Cameras : Camera & Photo https://amzn.to/2xNqtuS

$998

Why would I spend $1200 for this? a 1" sensor I'm lost that guys are actually excited about this. A 1" sensor in 2018 $1200 it's not even weather sealed, please get this out of my face. $1200 for a non-weather sealed 1" sensor. You can hardly see the screen out in full day sun. Honestly, you're better off just getting an iPhone or high-end Android for your daily walk around camera. $1200 what a joke.

$1200 for a 1" sensor no way in hell! flat out no, I don't care what it does. I had the original RX100 and since have moved on. Again no way in hell $1200.

Wow, you took the words right out of mouth. Everything you noted is spot on, I've also traveled the same path through Flickr and Facebook and was hoping Instagram would stay fairly tame but it appears Facebook will ruin it.

Kaso: MP3 players were already dead. Entry-level cameras of all kinds are dying.

The traditional concepts of "telephone" have changed completely -- the telephone functions are now parts of a mobile device that facilitates intuitive, instantaneous and transparent access to multiple network services. The traditional concepts of "camera" are being renewed -- the camera functions are quickly becoming parts of a mobile device, with exciting yet-to-be-invented apps that define modern photography.

My children and grandchildren enjoy photography (and videography), but do not relate to my fascination with klunky cameras and lenses that must be used in conjunction with klunky computers and hard drives. Who am I to argue with them? They own the future, not me.

Bhima78 so you're saying that we've become so lazy as a society that we cannot carry anything except a smartphone? Sorry I'm 54 and still going strong and have no intentions to become so lazy that all I can carry is a smartphone.

Sorry, I disgaree 100% all it takes is a simple Eyefi card and your entire argument is blown out the window. I have one in my Sony RX100 and DSLR, never go near a PC at all. I use Lightroom Mobile, Photoshop Express Mobile and Snapseed all mobile apps for any retouching I need if any.

My little Sony HX9V from 2011 had this feature back in 2011, called background defocus, its all done in camera software.
