About me:

Canon EOS 6D mk I, various L and non-L lenses, tripods, Astrotrac, ball and azimuth/elevation heads, polarizers and IR pass filters. I shoot available light.

fyngyrz's current gear

Canon EOS 6D
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM
USB jack croaked. Very unhappy about that. Otherwise, this camera is Da Bomb. Holding for a 5DmkIV. The 6DmkII was a great disappointment. :(
Only flaw is too difficult to focus at wide apertures... just can't seem to achieve critical focus w/o going past it either way. Feels like the focus gear train is sloppy.
Wish it were faster, had less coma, CA at wide apertures.
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM
Canon EF 85mm F1.8 USM
Wish it had less coma and CA at wide apertures. Very messy lens for night shots. Works well in daylight, though. Unfortunately, I prefer night shooting.
Nice compromise lens, easily comprehended FOV (50mm is sort of traditional), sensitive. Too much CA and coma at wide apertures.
Almost Canon's best lens, price-performance wise. The Nifty Fifty beats it p/p wise, though the 85mm is definitely a better lens, the nifty fifty is so inexpensive... bang for the buck isn't as high here.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4
Apple Aperture
Replaced Aperture 3 with LR4 because Adobe's LR4 supports the 6D under OSX 10.6.8, while Apple's Aperture does not. And _then_ of course Apple discontinued Aperture... so Lightroom it is, even on my new machine.
I have a 6D (which Apple only supports under OSX 10.7+) so I no longer use Aperture. That's Apple for you. Worst software support in the business. I would *prefer* to use this, it's GREAT software. But w/o 6D support, it might as well be a virus. Oh, wait. Apple discontinued it. It *is* a virus. Because Apple is clearly sick.
Better than most people are aware. Easier to use then Photoshop, but not quite as powerful.
Nik Color Efex Pro
Nik Dfine
Nik Silver Efex Pro
Interesting... could be better.
Not just meh, but YECH. Got it for free with other plugin, never use it. B&W is of zero interest to me. It's like taking the flavor out of food and claiming it's better. Pffbbbbt.
Nik Viveza
Apple iPad 3G +WiFi
By far the best plug-in I've used to date. But you don't want it. No need for your images to look as good as mine. This is not the plug-in you're looking for. Move along. Move along.
The closed garden severely limits what can be done with this. It mostly sits unused -- I do more with my Galaxy S7 phone.
Other gear:
  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 Difficult to use, super unfriendly UI, but quite powerful.
  • Noise Ninja This is a good noise reduction package. Not great, but I haven't found anything great yet.
  • Sigma 600mm Catadioptric Fun lens. Only low-to-moderate image quality, and f/8 only, but then again, it's 600mm in just a few inches of lens. There are times when this is just what I need.

Samsung Galaxy S7
Canon EOS 6D Mark II
Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM

Canon EOS 40D
Canon EOS 50D
Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II
For its day, a great camera.
A *really* great camera. High ISO capabilities constantly made idiots out of doubtful and nay-saying reviewers.
If I didn't have the 50mm f/1.4, I'd have kept this. amazing little lens. Unmatched price/performance.
Canon EF 85mm F1.2L II USM
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art
Too much coma, CA. Lousy night shooter, wide aperture totally compromises image quality. Not worthy. Sold it.
This is an EF-S lens, and so would not work on my 6D. If it had, I would have kept it. Very flexible thing to have on the camera when you're just out and about.
Only works on APS-C cameras, or would have kept it. Great price-performance.
