The only thing that works for me in a live music scenario, is shooting 4K vids, especially at night, where the lighting changes from one second to another. Besides, the music is part of the show, why delete it by taking pics? Samples at the 2018 Montreal International Jazz Fest in 4K, a6500 and the Sony 18 to 55 mm f 3.5 to 5.6, using Clear Image Zoom www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGOm8RdSsWo EPZ also the 18 to 105 mm Sony EP Z 18 to 105 mm f/4 G lens www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt2x2YmK6wU
The poor pic quality of the RX100Vl in the intro of this article, obviously taken with the author's phone, seriously degrades the once high standards of DPreview.
tokyojerry: " The touch sensitivity of the rear screen can be used for your choice of two things: as an touchscreen for positioning the focus point or triggering focus and shutter, or as a touchpad, when the camera is held to your eye."
I think you have the 'shutter' release part wrong. AFAIK it will NOT release shutter as is the case with Olympus and Panasonic cameras. Only focus selection is possible. You still need to press the shutter button to get a shutter release.
Not really. You can use the touch screen for more than that. You can even use it to type in passwords. Go to the settings 'Touch Pad Area Set', and select 'Whole Screen'. Make sure your install the latest software update, Ver 1.04.
tgchan: I have just bought a6500 and it has terrible noise/compression even at base 100iso in RAW...
I am thinking of returning it, because it is so bad...
It looks worse than shooting iso 400 or even 800 on my pentax k-5 ii s ...
Sony charges so much for that crap that it makes me just mad...
It has nice autofocus and 4k, everything else just sucks.
It's an outstanding but complex camera. You have to learn how to use it. It's not a point and shoot. I had some disappointments too, but I blame myself for those, not the camera. Review your menu settings and try again. Good luck.
bolt2014: How can Sony justify doubling the price of this camera over the A6000? Sure, the A6500 has a touch screen and a few other new features, but $1398.00 for the body only? Not worth it to me!
I thought so too, until I ought one.
Mateus1: If A6500 had at least front and back comman dials like all Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus have, I would buy it and forget about Fuji. It's a shame - top Sony APS-C has poorest camera control and does not offer direct access to many important features, incuding shutter speed and aperture, the base in photography. So it's exellent toy, but not exellent photography tool.
Do you own one or are you just making this up? I own one and disagree with everything you say. Not a toy, but a superb tool in the hands of an experienced photographer.

You get use to it.
Poor samples.
taktak91: Sony's first attempt at a real camera, and also one of the last.
Laughable nonsense.
reanim888: To my mind there seems to be a certain ‘paranoia’ about the NEX-7, something I find quite disturbing. Whilst most professional reviewers are writing very positive, comprehensive feedback, amateur armchair experts seem to picking holes in everything by writing messages all over the Internet that are littered with non-understandable technical jargon. I am far from sure anyone without an advanced degree in photography can understand what on earth they are on about. Surely the strength of a camera is in the pictures (or video) the camera offers, and in the case of the NEX-7, it’s generally recognised they are quite astounding, comparing quite favourably against cameras at four times the cost.
I agree with you and my Canon equipment has been collecting dust since my purchase of the Nex7 and a6000. Both outstanding and so portable. The fact you can shoot video through the viewfinder, is the biggest plus among many for me.The likely negatives come from those who don't own one.
Tony Bologna: The first thing i noticed while holding this phone at the Verizon store was the gorgeous screen. I also noticed the outrageous amount of glare. Did this bother you while shooting these pics?
Must be the same when shooting in the sun with most phones I imagine. Same on my iPhone 4S.
dual12: I don't see the point in shooting low quality images.
You're missing the point of this article.
Good job. Impressive for a phone. We can call it a point and shoot with a phone.
