I noticed this immediately too -- but the banding in that image is contoured to the musician's face, so it is likely related to the light source and not the sensor. Or?

@Nowhitelens Not at all! I love Canon (and my 1- & 5-series bodies). However, the DSLR format is quickly becoming antiquated (my biggest complaint is actually related to focusing screens...!)....
