I have to wonder who funds all these overpriced camera bags on kickstarter

Dan Tong: Identifying the perpetrator after the fact is good, but what if the drone or drones were delivering toxic chemicals (risin or some other poison), biological weapons or perhaps explosives (I don't know how weight restrictions would limit the effectiveness of the payload).

Seems like drones should be prevented from encroaching the area in the first place. Same thing for airports, otherwise it will be too late.

Of course effective prevention would be a very expensive and difficult matter, so I'm just bringing up the issue - I can't propose a practical solution, other than a ring of defensive drones that ready to takeoff at second's notice with the capability of bringing the unauthorized invader drones down.

this is classic paranoia stirred up by the media, yes in theory it's 'easy' to weaponize them but there's plenty of other threats out there there that are probably more practical and easier to get hold on in the US

On article Hands-on with the new Peak Design Travel Tripod (309 comments in total)

I bought the be free last year for £90, it's lighter than the PD (over a kilo); granted it doesn't go as high and is only rated to 4Kg so is the PD worth over double the price, I think not.

PD make some great stuff but it's so overpriced

FarawayPictures: I'm not sure how they ruled out Terrorism so quickly, unless that was to stop panic? it all seemed highly suspicious that it was in the dark, there was more than one, the Drones seemed to disappear when the planes were grounded but reappeared when they tried to start up again...

terrorism
noun
the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

Flying a drone around an airport is the same as chaining yourself to a tree in protest, it's a non-violent way of causing disruption.

JDOnrust: It’s not really cheaper than a Gopro 7 Black. You have to buy the Expansion Kit (109 euro) to turn it into a seriously interesting product.
(How come the Chinese are so clever at marketing? Forty years ago they all wore the same suit.)

at which point you should probably get the full size osmo, which strangely is no longer on their website (UK)

Luke Kaven: If this video from DJI is truly shot on the Osmo, that's truly impressive video performance for a camera that size.

In the video description
"Additional aerial footage shot on Phantom 4 Pro."

So the white is irrelevant given you can get much better 4K devices for that money (YI)
Silver is hero 5 black / hero (modded firmware) (so overpriced)
Black is the only innovation with hypersmooth, this eliminates the need for a gimbal but without a gimbal you don't get the option for motionlapses and it's over priced.

ozturert: Every new generation of every electronic product gets more expensive. I'd understand standard inflation and currency effects but not all increase is due to these.

The MP2 pretty much eliminates the P4P2 at which point it has to be priced such; when the P5P comes out that will be even more to keep the market share.

On article DJI Spark Review: Small but mighty (133 comments in total)

For the money you can't fault the spark, the still IQ is comparable to the mavic (same size (as it folds) but heavier). The main advantage of the spark is the small size allows for guerrilla style shooting e.g. you can get away with using it where a bigger device would be scorned (I do not condone illigal flying as that's ruining the hobby). The main disadvantage is the crippled transmission strength when not in FCC mode ~500m the mavic will do at least 1Km in a non FCC mode. The video quality is decent but < mavic essentially if you want stills get the spark or P4P if you want video and stills get the mavic or P4

On photo Lonely bench in Finland in the Chairs, with an artistic effect challenge (9 comments in total)

Whilst it's a great photo, HDR isn't an artistic effect.
