Maoby: You can always fall back on ...

IPhone 3G (2008)
1.92 MP sensor (1600x1200)
camera 3.42mm f / 2.8
(with a multiplication factor of 10.82) = 37mm

or

IPhone 4 (2010)
5 MP sensor (2592x1936)
camera 3.85mm f / 2.8 ISO 80

See the comparison

Good decision making ;)

Hey, my first iPhone is iPhone 3G, and next one is iPhone 4!
Then 5, 7, 11p.
I like 12 Pro Max camera but it's too big & heavy for daily use.

tkbslc: Seems really expensive for what it is. I think at half price it would be a fun gadget.

Agree. $199 will fine for me.

I believe 15x Panasonic ZS200 have much much better image quality.
However this toy looks cute and can use as telescope.

TORN: Will the iPhone 12 pro now be able to provide a stable network connection? Our 11 pro devices are worse than any $20 cheap phone from the supermarket’s garbage bin. I travel the same route to work every day. My 11 pro is the the first phone that has 7 areas on that route where it just is not able to connect.

When shopping I have to regularly ask my wife for her iPhone 7 to look up things in the internet, because my pro 11 cannot connect to the same provider.

I am very dissatisfied by a $1200 phone which is bad at connecting to networks.

I think 11 are use Intel baseband, and 12's baseband are from Qualcomm.
In my experience Qualcomm & Mediatek & Samsung all make good baseband.
However you may shop 12 online and if network still poor you can return it.

ZC Lee: Hi guys,
I am confuse about iPhone 12 pro max new camera system.
The main camera on i12pm come with "Sensor Shift Image Stabilization(SSIS)" camera. And other two camera come with "Optical Image Stabilization(OIS)"
SSIS is clear but which OIS tech used on i12pm's wide/tele camera?
Also sensor shift? or lens move? or module move?
(PS: before i12pm I think all OIS on iphone's are SSIS.....)

@Video-vs-photo
I read some digital camera review test OIS performance, But I never see it on smartphone. even DxOMark also don't test OIS.

Vallaph: Fimi Palm is slightly better, it has the same specs by adding a comfortable joystick to control the gimbal

FIMI is 30FPS@4K, DJI & Feiyu are 60FPS

FrithjofA: Where do I store a 100MP (>50MB file)? How do I display an 100MP image on a phone display? What about the diffraction limit? Since the sensor is so small, and the lens as well, such 100 MP sensors are just marketing gimiks since the diffraction of a perfect lens would spread any sharp point over several pixels. Just take a 10MP image and upsample it to 100MP= same information content.

The marketing people tries to beet the laws of optics.... good luck.

AXYZE: My question is:
Why not use big pixel as default? (Output 27mp or 12mp)
We can get "real" big pixel.
I don't think 4x0.8=1.6um or 9x0.8 = 2.4um
Because between each pixel still have gap/wall.
108mp is a marketing request or have real benefit?

mosc: 12MP Ultra Wide Camera
Pixel size: 1.4μm
FOV: 120˚
F.No (aperture): F2.2
2 108MP Wide-angle Camera
PDAF, OIS
Pixel size: 0.8μm (12MP 2.4μm)
FOV: 79˚
F.No (aperture): F1.8
1/1.33" image sensor size
3 48MP Telephoto Camera
Pixel size: 0.8μm (12MP 1.6μm)
FOV: 24˚
F.No (aperture): F3.5
4 DepthVision Camera
Space Zoom
Hybrid Optic Zoom 10x

So 120 degrees I get as 10.5mm, the main lens 79 degrees is a pretty wide 21.8mm, near enough 2x from the ultrawide, and the tele is only 85mm. Total ratio between the ultra wide and the tele:
8.15x

How do they get 10x from that? And 100x compared to the ultrawide is over 1000mm or more than a 12x crop on their tele lens. Being 48 mp, you're left with 321k resolution which is basically 640x480 VGA... except that the 0.8μm needs a brighter aperture than f3.5 to stay out of diffraction so it'll be a whole lot less than that.

I dunno. 85mm is impressive enough but why do they have to outright lie six ways from sunday about this thing?

mosc: Agree. I have 3 48mp phone before, The pixel level res is all poor.
But in my experience, crop a 12mp area from 48mp photo and display on a 24inch 4K display are acceptable (not sharp but not too bad). If crop a 3mp area display it on 6.5" phone screen are the same.
So I think if only share photos with phone , 32.6x still OK. and the 100x maybe only use as a telescope.

The tele sensor is 48mp 8.15x,, if Crop a 12mp area it's 16.3x
if Crop a 3mp area it's 32.6x .......etc
I think 3mp/32.6x still useful because it almost fit the screen res.

Hi thscan, a 1/1.33 inch sensor is almost 4x size of a 1/2.55, not 2x

As a 2/3 inch big sensor, I hope it come with 1.6um/26Mp format,
not 0.8um/108MP.

Bigger sensor always welcome. but I think reduce 108M to 27M will better.

It's just a joke.
You approve the design, You approve the final product,
You say that's all garbage?
YOU SHOULD REJECT AT FIRST!
