Just made an account to express how I've never considered this before, and thank you for writing this!
I know some others have said that this is nothing new and they've heard this a million times, but as a newer hobbyist I can tell you my instinct prior to reading this absolutely would have been to just be excited about the thought of someone wanting my photo and I surely wouldn't think to ask for compensation.
While I'm not a pro, I'd hate to inadvertently contribute in devaluing the profession for others by giving away my stuff for free-- and so if the opportunity ever arises going forward, I wont.
