KCK14's advice seems sensible. It seems to make sense to have high usage critical kit checked over, but as an amateur I've never had any kit serviced. It either works or it doesn't - to be fair, ...

AFAIA it shows the focus point used, not the area that's actually in focus, so not a lot of use for culling...
-
If so, maybe he has a bad copy...
-
Personally, it doesn't seem so much of a focus or DOF issue as a consequence of using a zoom lens near full open - very few zoom lenses are at there best under these circumstances. Try some shots ...

I only tried one... never again ;-)

I accept that older lenses may not be the best, but the 43-86 is the only one that I've ever sent back - appalling distortion - no good for anything with straight lines at either end.

Can't say that I agree... I use a cheap NAS to stream my music - usually 8-10 hours a day. The drive is up and spinning 24x7x365 and has - so far - been doing this for 11 years. I'd agree that ...

I can't say that I've never noticed CA on the 28-105, but Nikon's own software corrects CA rather well.
-
Missed point, somewhat.... However, I shoot raw and use the raw software to make any corrections - if the flaws bother me.
-
I use a 28-105 as my walk about lens on a D810, finding it good quality and flexible. With the FL range and macro facility, there's not much that one can't have a stab at. I don't really use any ...

I don't use cloud backup at all... I backup all my data to a NAS, then backup the NAS to two other external USB drives in rotation. One drive is kept off-site, the other on-site.

Is a much mis-used term... Exactly... No-one implied otherwise...

'Professional' simply means being paid for work - nothing to do with quality, IMHO. I tend to think of Nikons as :- D9999 as consumer - some extremely competent (e.g. D7200) D999 as prosumer - many ...
-
I find then excellent cameras - and felt no need to upgrade to the D850 when it came out. Sure the D850 is better, but not enough to justify the change - to me, anyway.
-
They're both compromised - but this is inevitable with a DX and FX mix. I don't know of a perfect solution, otherwise I'd have probably bought one ;-) The 24-85 may be a better fit, but is still ...
-
You seem to assume that personal data is not important, and therefore backups needn't be taken seriously - this is, to the vast majority of people, including photographers - totally erroneous. My ...
-
No, 'fraid not... As an ex IT guy you should be very aware that a RAID system is not a good backup strategy. If your data doesn't matter to you personally, that's fine - but leaving that sort of ...

I can't say that I'm convinced that there will be any more image detail to recover, but it will be interesting to see your results in a like for like comparison

But what happens if you use the in camera conversion?

I could be wrong, but I thought that the ES-2 was designed with the 60mm AF-D or equivalent in mind. The ES-1 was designed for the older manual lenses - like the 55mm. I use a 60mm AF-D with my ...
