Equivalence is exactly about the same depth of field - if you gather the same amount of light with the same field of view, depth of field is the same. Dpreview have an entire article about that.

Placed 49^th in the challenge. It's hard to believe this was taken from a balcony but it's true! Living in the only high building in Unterschleißheim, Germany, it allows an amazing view of the Alps and Munich. This photo was taken in late spring, when warmer air layers sometimes get stopped by the Alps and create large Cumulonimbus clouds. One of them, seen here, caught my eye since it pierces the upper atmospheric layer and, due to the increased local pressure, condensates the water. Note the tiny airplane in front of the cloud!
