Is it old enough to have the misfiring problem at close range (to the strobes). The fix is to hold down a button when turning the trigger on. The light will flash a few times and the trigger works ...

Just like to echo the endorsement of 4x pixel shift over 16x (and single shot). I find the 16x creates a pretty nasty pattern effect most times - a sort of checkerboard of slightly different tones ...

A1, GM glass, Capture One, Affinity Photo, DxO PureRAW 2, Topaz Sharpen AI, DaVinci Resolve and Zerene stacker. That's every "want" satisfied, every likely situation covered and every result ...

Ah, binning means "throwing away" then (using one of the 4 pixels?). I thought it meant "combining" (4 pixels into one in this case). It used to. Explains why quality is in doubt... Thanks.
-
Interesting. Would 4 to 1 pixel binning (if it's happening) increase colour fidelity? Each S-sized output pixel could have had 4 inputs, true R,G,G,B instead of the single (Bayer-matrix) colour of ...

Thanks for the heads-up, installing now. Strange that I never hear about updates from Sony even though I have an account with them. I always find out here. Must have clicked some "don't bother me" ...

Yikes! I'm having a flashback! Unattractive noise is no longer an issue now I use DxO PureRAW as my "noisy image" RAW converter. I think it does a much better job with lens corrections too. It's ...

I started looking for alternatives to Lightroom and Photoshop the moment Adobe announced the "software subscription" malarkey. It took a while, but I settled on Capture One Pro and Affinity photo. ...

AF/MF switch on the lens?
-
I stack off-camera, but I'd like AF bracketing for sure. Sony are unfathomably stubborn on this. Much like touch-control and flippy screens which they took ages to grudgingly implement, on a few ...

Keep the A1. It will lose far less value over the next couple of years than it has already lost. But at least you'll have had some usage for your money. And might choose to keep it after all.
-
My cameras auto-re-map the sensors so often (on power off), I'm beginning to worry that the pixels contracted dry rot or something.
-
Sensor cleaning is ultrasonic on A1. A separate system from IBIS. The other cameras use IBIS to shake the sensor.

A wild, speculative conjecture for your entertainment... Could it be "tetrachromacy"? I was reading about it recently. Grossly over-simplifying for brevity, some folk have a 4th type of cone in ...

I think we agree, mostly. If I didn't have the versions I have now, I'd be on the new ones like a shot. I'm not questioning the "worth" of the lenses themselves but the worth of the upgrade from ...

An infeasibly large improvement might have, but being infeasible, it wouldn't happen. The second part is correct. I bought the best I could when I could, and they're still more than good enough for ...

Totally agree. The latest V2 lenses all seem far too expensive as an upgrade to V1 versions. I love the look of the 50/1.2 GM, but I have the Zony 50/1.4ZA already and simply can't justify the cost ...

That came out nicely. Very effective "sweeping view". Was the pointing finger on the right intentional? The EXIF says 27mm so I assume that's for the individual shots. Any idea on the effective FL ...

As others said, macro lenses are the same as regular lenses optically. Focal length, focus distance and aperture have exactly the same effect on DoF for all lenses. I think what prompts this DoF ...

Could maybe stand even higher-key, but looks gorgeous as is. Lovely image.
