This is the money shot of the series! Just wonderful!
I bought the 16" version at release and I can confirm everything said here. This laptop is a beast, setting the standards for everything else. Blazingly fast, super screen, super speakers, super stable, great battery life, MagSafe, lots of ports (finally!), quiet as a mouse. The only thing that crashes sometimes are Office programs - of course...
Very happy with the - rumored - specs (SD slot, more ports, HDMI, Magsafe) and I definitely will wait with replacing my 2015 MacBook Pro with the new model. But it's kinda funny - or not - that we're all so pleased with "new" specs that are frankly just a return to features which existed since the crack of dawn. Finally listening to what customers want is probably the biggest innovation here :).
That 23mm 1.4 is marvelous (see in particular the images shot by Jonas Rask), but I don't think I will upgrade from my current 23 1.4. First, I don't shoot well enough to justify the expense :), but also is has grown from 310 to 375 grams. The current weight feels just right for me as walk-around everyday purpose prime.
ecka84: The skin tones look weird. What happened?
Mm, I don't see a single picture with weird skin tones.
Andy Galeati: Even being much bigger, I'm sure it doesn't make the horrible zoom noise during video like its predecessor!
My 18mm 2.0 is quick & silent (on my XH1) and sharp, too. It seems to be a lens with mixed reviews, certainly.
ozuidema: Useful lens, but no aperture ring is a dealbreaker for me
That's what I meant, a marked aperture ring. I like to be able to see aperture, shutter speed and preferably ISO at a glance...
Useful lens, but no aperture ring is a dealbreaker for me
Boss of Sony: I feel like monochrome photography has had its day. Color is so interesting, and so evocative, that whenever I see a monochrome photograph, underneath I'm thinking: I wish I could see that in color. Humans have evolved to respond to color emotionally and instinctively. For example, the colors of clean, fresh water sources like rivers and lakes instinctively evoke a feeling of calmness. Black and white photographs don't evoke the same instinctive responses.
Don't think monochrome photography "has had its day". To me, some shots simply work better in B&W, and some shots work better in colour. For instance, shot number 8 (the shoes in a rectangle of light) to me typically is a shot that is much more powerful in B&W. And I don't believe it's a "generation thing" either: plenty of young cats around who shoot monochrome frequently. That said, I wouldn't rush to buy a camera that cannot shoot in colour at all, but it's an interesting niche product for the afficionados.
Poor HDR colors, poor background blur, flat and artificial images which all scream "phone camera"! Computational photography is a long way from competing with real camera's with large sensors and "real" lenses. And thank God for that, too :).
eldonito: I have the "equivalent" model for my Fuji APS-C cameras (9mm f/2.8) and let me say, it is such an amazing lens to use! It has an impressively short MFD, which allows for some very creative, near-macro UWA shots. Brilliant, as practically all Venus Laowa products have been so far.
I can fully second that: I have the same setup, and I love the Laowa 9 mm on my Fuji. Great, sharpness, colours and contrast and the vignetting is not bad, and easily corrected anyway.
Craig A Menzies: Looking through the information I can find available on this Version 3, they'll have to do a lot better on the upgrade price for me to move from 2.x.x. I waited quite a while to go from 1.x.x to 2.x.x when that major update entered the field because I felt the incremental differences too small to justify the upgrade price. Eventually with a better discount I did purchase it.
I paid for 1.x.x and thought the price reasonable given it was clear that the product would continue to develop rather than stagnate and eventually disappear the way Google was handling it. Given that I only upgraded to 2.x.x not all that long ago and the differences are not that enticing (yet) and since I already have Viewpoint 3, I'll be sitting this out for a while yet.
Agree, minor upgrades. For 10-15 bucks, I'd go with the flow. For 60, don't think so.
Improved focus tracking is a biggie for me. I regularly shoot fast moving animals and objects with my XT2, but my - much cheaper! - Canon 77D blows the Fuji out of the water when it comes to tracking. Have already ordered the XT4; curious when it will arrive...
zakaria: XPRO 3 is for people who wants red label "Leica" but money is an issue.
There are lot of places where I wouldn't walk around with a Leica, but those are the same places that I wouldn't bring any pro-style looking camera at all, be it DSLR or mirrorless.
And I wouldn't buy a Leica, but not because I feel that other people might see me as "too rich" but because I'm pretty sure that it will not give me more pleasure than my beloved Fuji's.
Not buying a camera because it would feel "awkward" in front of people who can't afford it is a bit too politically correct for me. Other people happily spend the amount of a Leica on a skiing holiday with the family and nobody says boo about it. I would agree that it's not very stylish to wave your platinum card in the faces of everybody, but at the same time, if you really dig something and you can afford it, other jealous and/or prejudiced people shouldn't keep you from buying it.
studio1961: Wait for the TX-4 to come out and then get an XT-3 for $600 on eBay.
Or wait for the X-T4 and then buy it :)
Andy890: Am I correct in thinking that they have not added the 'Classic Neg' film simulation from the X Pro3 ? There were rumours that this new film simulation might be added to the XT3 as a firmware update. Does anybody know any more about this?
Yeah, wondered about that, too. Don't have the answer but it would be really annoying if Fuji would keep the Classic Neg film sim only to the X-Pro 3 (and the supposedly-soon-to-be-released XT4, I would guess).
RedOwl: Seems like there are a few X-Pro fans out there. Just out of curiosity, if you had to make up a 3 PRIME lens kit to go with the X-Pro3 (or2), what would it be (Fuji lenses only please)?
Well, depends on what you shoot, obviously, but for me it would be:
16mm 1.4
35mm 2.0
56mm 1.2
All class acts, and you can cover anything from landscapes to portraits.
Wm G Levy: Most of the comments I see are snarky. It's a Lumix, it's expensive, it's heavy.
This camera is not for everyone so why so snarky?
Jealousy, I would assume. Dentist's camera yada yada. Can't afford it either, but if you can and it gives you pleasure, why not buy it. No skin off my nose.
Hugo808: Oh Fuji, if only your quality control wasn't so awful. I've had nothing but trouble with your stuff and can't face another round of sending something back because it wasn't put together properly or mysteriously stopped working for no reason.
I wouldn't mind if you were cheap but you aren't. I suggested this lens in a poll on the Fujirumours page too. It got enough upvotes to go into production I see but I shan't be buying one as it's been such a miserable shopping experience thus far. Out of 3 camera bodies and 6 lenses only one of each has worked properly. Either I have the worst consumer karma imaginable or your gear is put together by blind monkeys.
And it would be so good if it were otherwise.
Weird. I have 3 Fuji cameras and 6 lenses and if there is one thing that stands out, it is the build quality. No single Fuji unit has ever failed me yet. I'm talking XF lenses here; have never tried the XC lenses. But now that Fuji has read your post, I'm sure they will release an SS series products. Super Sturdy!
Mm, I'll see during the next holidays how my 18-135mm fares. Saying you like this lens seems to be tantamount to saying "I voted for Donald Trump" (if you are American, which I'm not), but my first test shots with this lens were encouraging. If it turns out as lacklustre as some say, this 16-80 could become my new travel zoom. And, yes, I'll bring other lenses to the holidays - of undisputed quality. Just to make sure :).
