Single focus and continuous shooting doesn't make any sense to me. I use AF-A or AF-C (for BIF) with continuous shooting.

He reduced the size of one photo to get the same field of view as the crop of another photo. This 70/24 reduce sure reduces the noise visible to our eyes.
