NaBalam: $1,000 for a compact p&s? You can get a propper DSLR (D7100) with lens for that price. That's just crazy. Only Leica is allowed to ask stupid prices for stupid products. Even God knows that.

Is that a D7100 in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?

TriezeA72: Won't be long and DSLRs will be a sinking ship

Technology always moves on. Twenty years ago every "real" photographer told us that digital would never replace film. Ten years later when they finally switched to digital they were shocked to find out their film cameras were worthless. Now these same people ignore history and swear dslrs will never be replaced by small cameras. In a few years when they finally wake up they will be shocked to find out no one wants to buy their $5k dinosaurs. It is the people who have a large financial investment in their gear that have their head in the sand and ignore history.

I am sorry but a $5000 camera and a $15000 lens are not "regular photography equipment", that would be a cell phone camera.

All the wild condors have radio transmitters on them. Some even have GPS transmitters also.

I have not criticized anyone. If people want to invest $5ooo on a dinosaur that is their problem.

z909: 40x with a small sensor.

I thought 20x on my TZ35 was quite far enough for this class of camera (even as a tourist class amateur).

What are the chances of a 40x zoom photo being good enough to frame and hang on the wall ?

I would have no problem framing this shot and hanging it on a wall. Taken with a Fuji S1 at a concert, at night. 1/2.3" sensor.

People are switching to cell phone cameras. DSLRs are now dinosaurs. The only ones who don't understand that are the ones who have invested a giant sum of money into dead technology. In a few years your giant DSLRs will be as worthless as film cameras are today. You can argue with me and call me all the names you want but it won't reverse progress. No one with a brain wants to haul around a camera the size of a toaster.

And you think there is value in your comment? Obviously you don't know that dslrs are dinosaurs and the future is cell phone cameras.
