  • And by the way, I too am confused as to why the images they've been posting seem to have blown highlights. I'm sure the camera is capable of better.

  • It is so hard at this point to know... they haven't given us a full size image. Even I'm frustrated and I'm confident they will show us the future of photography eventually.

  • The key question is will they have a good enough first release to break thru and not be killed by people forming a negative perception. It is indeed the future of photography in my book.

    Come over...

  • We're all dying to see full size images! :) Time will tell when we can get hands on and do side-by-side

  • Replied in yes
Indeed, to me one of the most amazing features is the potential of the depth map. Not only does it give you the ability to change focus, but depth of field, and to determine the distance and size ...
  • Such a great point! But I am digging and trying to gain as much knowledge as I can before the camera ships and I'm still pushing hard to get a beta so I can provide what you need - a great review ...
  • Or it could be an absolute killer! The initial version only does 28-150, but they have plans for other cameras down the line. The CEO wants to create a 600mm version :)

  • I can't wait until ovatab's jaw hits the floor when this camera starts shipping and he sees what it can do.

  • So... some info... (please come visit lightRumors.co and subscribe - shameless plug)... of all the 16 modules (sensor and lenses combined into a module), 10 fire at any one time depending on the...

  • @entoman granted there isn't much info in the article, but a little digging would find some info.

all lenses have their own sensor - so 16 lenses, 16 sensors. When an image is taken, only 10 of...

  • @chris2210 - you've hit the nail on the head "We could be looking at the future of imaging here" -- that's exactly why I launched lightRumors.co -- to be covering all of the tech behind...

  • @pete_vB - you're close on all your thoughts except the L16 only fires 10 of the sensors at a time as opposed to all 16.

  • plastic as far as I know. According to Rajiv Laroia (CTO) there's no need to go to glass as the plastic lenses are easier to manufacture and produce superb results.

  • Mike, i'm with you. This tech is going to be everywhere and it is going to rock. I wouldn't have taken the risk of launching a new site and building everything around it if I thought it was going ...
  • @zoom, let's see, who do I believe, the CTO (who by the way is the guy who invented the LTE tech in your cell phone), or a random guy on the internet?

I'll go with the CTO here. If he says running...

  • @fullstop - first, the amount of money raised (remember they only asked for a deposit - not the whole amount) during the pre-order process was not that large. Second, they have $65million in money...

  • no

  • Zoom, have you seen the recent samples added Friday? The ones on light's gallery?

  • I do not see this as an 'expensive gimmick' - computational imaging has a big future.

  • not the L16 - but Light has licensed the tech to Foxconn for smartphones
