As a Leica shooter, could not agree more.

benvision: Something is seriously wrong with this lens. I hope its just a faulty copy and not what we will get when they ship. After looking at images 17 and 29 this may be the worst image quality ever of a modern 50mm prime.

Again. If I can’t see an artistic problem in the images I’d love to have you point them out to my old tired eyes. Btw, my default lens is an 1.4/50 Summilux M on either the leica SL or the M9P, so I do have some experience with a normal focal length and wide aperture. I would be OK using this lens on my SL and don’t see the “terrible” features you see. I may consider this lens and would love to have your insight into why I shouldn’t. In the interest of full disclosure, I prefer lenses with character and a distinctive look over just pure accuracy and optical perfection.
Thanks

Great comment. Or should I say… … very troll?
No specific criticism, just a broad swathe statement criticizing something as the “worst prime”.
Back it up with specifics. Pictures are expressionist, not documentary. This lens may not be what I want, but that is based of preference. What you must be saying is that you prefer this lens least of the primes you have used/tested ( fill in the blanks). Your opinion while bombastic, is meagre in detail. Hope your pictures are not like that.

PeterWallace: Very cinematic and full of character! Bravo!

The one comment that focuses on the artistry of photography. Most of the others would have panned Rembramdt for too much magenta and laughed at Van Gogh as “smudgy”.

Cameras.

As an exclusively Leica lens user, I’m glad that people with Z cameras can also benefit from the joy of using these.

I did mean the microlens factor in the m and sl sensors. Particularly at the margins with the short flange distance.

Kartikmani2000: For those who don’t use AF. ALL these statements are meaningless. The ability to use leica M and R optimized sensors with cameras like the leica SL (and the SL2) is great. The camera is important, but the artistry of a picture is the lens. I am sorry, but SoNikoCanon lenses do not do it for me. Manual focus is a controlled and beautiful process of making art, like making love. AF is wham bam thank you Ma’am. The latter gets tiresome and becomes mundane. MF keeps it fun.

Agree with all of the above!😃

(unknown member): no autofocus. Zero interest.

Really wondering why all those exotic players are launching all sorts of whacko manual focus lenses at whacky prices. Cannot imagine it's ever paying off for any of them.

There is no autofocus. It is a misnomer. It should be camera focused vs. photographer focused or hybrid where the photographer focuses and camera tracks.
Thanks to camera focused (AF) images, most so-called photographers are showing off their pictures that should be credited to their cameras.

Most landscape, portrait and macros as well as street pics taken by photographic artists ( both pro and amateur) are mostly photographer focused or hybrid (MF or tracking).

FoxShutter: These should be really good . I own M42 MC-Helios 40-2 85mm f/1.5 and it’s a fantastic lens . The built quality is also excellent . It’s rather Leica league than oriental makers . Of course there’s even no comparison to cheap Chinese lenses. Zenit lenses are being sold in Nikon F , Canon EOS and M42 mounts at B&H .

Leica like in what sense?

Maybe just me, but the images from the lens/xt3 combo seemed a little magenta rich. Maybe it is a Fuji thing.
Also was wondering why some videos on the gh5/gh5s and some on the s1h. Personally, the s1h looks so much nicer both with dof and colors.

Kartikmani2000: To all the canikon people out there, why are you upset anyway?
This is clearly an overpriced heavy overly well made lens with excellent sharpness and beautiful shadows without that green nikon cast or that overly magenta canon appearance that make everyone's images look the same - just like your robot overlords demand.
Let us unfortunate Leica and panasonic people remain in our misery - dealing with these lenses in our doomed format with these overly excellent cameras and the fact that our pictures don't look the same as yours.

Definitely, not a bot. Leica M9P user with a summilux 50 and a 21 elmarit.
