I just bought a Nikon 180mm f2.8D lens (fabulous lens). It weighs 760 grams - doesn't have OIS but it covers a full frame image circle, not a M43 one. How can this Panny weigh 50% more?

rangel28: Amazing photos. Thanks for posting. Were these taken with a Nikon camera? Do we know what kind of lens was used? I thought I read somewhere that NASA uses Nikons.

Fare not fair

Lassoni: Tamron does what Nikon doesn't.

For those of us who are a bit older, have bad backs and a bit of arthritis in the wrists, the 200-500mm is hard to hand hold for more than a few seconds!

vscd: I hoped for something special like a 24-70 f2. They prooved to be able to do some stunning unexpected lenses. But this one is only mediocre and the price-difference to the Canon is not that large, while the Canon 24-70 L II has a very fast AF and weathersealing on pro level.
I wait for the new Tamron.

Thank you panther fan for converting the weight into grams for the other 96% of the world's population that don't understand the old imperial weights and measures.

BBQue: For a company that sends their photographers to let's say THE OLYMPICS to cover the event, $10,000 is peanuts, so to speak.

The gear is probably depreciated over just 3 or 4 years. . . so the accounting cost may not be that great - probably close to zero for 3 - 4 year old gear

Albert Silver: The difference in battery life is odd. Are they measured the same way, or is one shooting RAW and the other JPEGs (smaller files, less juice needed to save to memory card)?

Actually. . . that should probably read "The automotive industry. . . "

What king of pedigree does Nitto Koyagu have in making lenses of the standard that will be demanded by buyers of this system?

Such a great camera. Do we really need a "D850" or would a "D810s" be sufficient for the next upgrade. . . adding in the D5's AF, Snapbridge and Expeed 5?

Yep. . . looking forward to the World Cup. . . "The" World Cup. The All Blacks have played 47 tests with Steve Hansen as Head Coach. Won 42, drawn 2 and lost 3

Tongki has said it all. . . nothing for me to add
