cxsparc: Maybe I am retro, but I simply don't want to watch a video all the time, instead at least provide the synopis points to read through in seconds.

You have a summary and a table of content including a Key takeaway pointer. May not done in seconds but by spending maybe 30 seconds on those you will actually get a summary and the key takeways of the video.

zonoskar: I wonder how this chart would have looked like when the Canon R5's would be readily available and not backordered 2 months.

Looking at Amazon’s best selling list of mirrorless cameras I see Sony A7 III on top followed by Canon RP and then R5.

BillGarrett: A camera with latest generation internals vs. a camera with warmed-over bits from a few years ago -- how is this a competition?

Yes. it was obvious which camera was going to win the battle even before it was started.

Nikon’s clear win shows that Canon really needs to step up and release a much better budget FF camera.

S_Connor: Apart from the ergonomics. The writing is on the wall. When even pro-grade switch to RF-mount. Canon EF is legacy from now on. It's going to be a cold and lonely winter for EF lens and camera users. Ofcourse they have themselves to blame. Anyone investing in a DSLR system for the last five years wasn't paying attention.

I think you draw wrong conclusion of this camera release. Totally!

Mike Fried: I'm considering upgrading my EOS 5D III... However, it's probably worth waiting until Christmas, as I'm not likely going anywhere worthwhile due to Covid for a long while, and Canon will likely fix the heat issues with a new model that will significantly drop the price of the EOS R5.

Christmas! What year?

If it is waterproof I would be seriously interested.

Camera100: It looks like Canon just ruined the 5-series reputation by releasing an 8K prototype. What a disaster! I would love to hear more from Canon on the whole thing. Maybe they can do some firmware tweaking and start recover.

@armadino I guess many potential buyers are asking themselves questions like that. Especially also since the 8K stuff seems to impact the photo experience. Depending on the answer to all this, I assume Canon might loose some customers.

Mark Banas: Once again, I watched the entire video review and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite having no interest in the camera being presented. The resulting photos and video are gorgeous, showcasing the skill of the two guys who are also pretty good in front of the camera. Amazon could double your pay and still be getting a bargain. Thanks again, chaps!

I guess other reviewers will cover that use case

pentaust: What I understand from this review: The Canon EOS R6 is a full frame camera that takes pictures. Those pictures have the quality of 20Mpixels full frame pictures. And I would add: in a blind test, no one could tell if the pictures come from this Canon EOS R6, or a 6D, or a D750 or a A7RIII, or a 5DIII or a 5DIV. So , if I don't have money to waste, I'd better keep using the cameras and lenses that I already have, keep taking picture and spend zero money on those new camera models that require to also buy new lenses, and would make no difference on images.

Well, it depends! In many situations the IBIS and the improved DR and AF of the R6 may be the difference between a missed opportunity and a really great shot. If you are into video there are other improved features that you can benefit from. But of course you are the only one that can decide whether this applies to you.

Does all supported Canon cameras take power from USB? Otherwise this solution is maybe good for occasional meetings. I for sure does not want to run out of juice during a meeting.

I am on very thin ice here but when I bought an audio interface to my video setup some time ago somebody told me that the impedance of the audio interface (pre-amps) should be around 10x higher than the source impedance (mic). Maybe that is the matching issue we see in this case.

beavertown: Only update so little?

”Little”? Given the community response when Canon released the camera without 24p, this is a Huge update. This update is so huge that JordanDrake found himself singing as a result of this update.

Great but unfortunately it seems that 24p is not available using HDMI Clean output.

“...Right now”? Do you mean today or tomorrow?
If we get displays that cover an entire wall I assume 8K and beyond would be welcome. That’s maybe not today’s or tomorrow’s most urgent needs either but I think it would be super cool to display gigantic photos covering an entire wall. So 8K now or later? I say, bring it on.... can’t wait.

SteveAnderson: Would be nice to just read what they think. Is it really worth the time and effort to make a video?

List of lenses, quick opinions with a few jokes, samples if you feel like it.

I guess i sound like a bit of a bummer.

Well, is it really worth the time and effort to take photos, make videos, or read about camera stuff for that matters?

justinwonnacott: The canon suoer wide zoom does not look very good. Compare to fuji 10-24... albeit the fuji is not a kit lens.

Most Fuji lenses are overpriced compared to what they deliver.

Becketh: Id love others thoughts on this vs xt4. I think this def trumps it, being full frame, and having 8k, but I think for a majority, xt4 will be better choice because of price.

I think a better choice for a majority is to stick to the camera brand they bought into already.

Many people (Incl. me) stick to Canon due to past decisions. Now some of us see the light in the tunnel. The waiting is finally over. Canon launches a 5 series mirrorless camera. Maybe there is a window of opportunity where Canon actually for the first time in years can compete in tech areas that matter for many dpreview readers. That’s something to talk about.

milkod2001: Been fixing leaking pipes under sink in bathroom yesterday. Had to take picture of them pipes to see how they were all set before i put them apart. Took picture with mobile.I was stunned how great pics looked in such low light conditions.

Wonder what extra camera companies will have to offer to survive if we already can take great shots with stupid a few 100's $$$ smartphone.

If you just wanted a camera to take great photos of pipes under a sink, I believe a cheap smartphone camera is the perfect choice. I would not choose my 5d IV and the 70-200/2.8, maybe the M6 with 22/2 if I really wanted to push it.
