I generally skip these company executive interviews but am intrigued by Sigma. What a pleasant surprise to find such a candid and genuine CEO. Makes me even more interested in Sigma products already very much on my radar. Bring out some more E mount zooms please!

Wow! That’s a BIG upgrade for Video on DP review. Chris and Jordan are fantastic. Their reviews, even tho part of a store, always felt very honest and legitimately editorial. Really looking forward to the next phase.

DouglasGottlieb: Use existing lenses as well or faster than a DSLR or don't bother

Because having a giant catalog of existing glass is more important than having slightly smaller lenses with a new mount

I'd like a digital, FF camera that looks like the one in the poster

Rod McD: I believe that the Iberits are also available in other mirror-less mounts (ie as well as Leica).

Hey DPR, how about a lens test/article/samples on the Iberits? There are very, very few sites on the net where anyone has tried any of them and no lab tests at all. If people could actually access better information and confirm whether they deliver decent IQ, we might actually learn whether they're lenses worth a look. Thanks.

Yes please test them

Hey DPR: please speculate:

Are the SL2 and 6D2 further evidence that no Canon EF mount mirror less is coming or just stop gaps? Because while these seem like nice cameras, they also seem like they occupy the same space.

This or an A7m3?

Exactly the analysis I was looking for! Thanks DPReview

DouglasGottlieb: Great article. But do they justify the price leap over a Sony A7Rii system?

@telia Nobody is going to top "for the love of peaches." The rest of us are just vying for second place at this point.

Like virtually every question in photography, the answer can be "it depends." I agree.

But due respect, it sounds like you're arguing two points: "don't compare sensors" AND incremental improvements can be worth thousands to those who need them.

All that I am proposing is a lively discussion about the benefits of one system over the other. Mainly because I had a bit of spare time on my hands. I know which best suits my needs. Even if my wants are another story.

I can't compare. That's what reviews are for. The patronizing "is a Ferrari worth more than a Civic?" replies are simply not a good analogy. These sensors are not that big. Less of a difference between these and FF than APSC to FF. And Rez is close. And the Hassy leaf shutter is nice but high speed sync is similar. I guess I answered my question.

PhotoKhan: As a Canon user, I simply cannot understand the few criticisms that are thrown around in these comments. The specifications are a complete blast. Period.

If the camera lives on to those specs is something to be ascertained and commented when the testing is done. For the moment, any criticism reads like "sour grapes", really.

How can the MP count be brought along when the competition maxes at 19 and 21MP?

How can anything be said about the AF specifications, when almost full coverage of a scene is offered, something that anyone who has ever done a modicum of action photography, be it Nature or Sports, knows exactly how important it is.

(cont.)

As a Canon user I'm really finding it harder and harder not to jump ship

Hello?!? Canon!?!??

Oh brother....

I see impossible. For Canon to catch up in mirrorless.

Not a "classic," but really versatile: 40mm.

Canon 40mm pancake
Leica 40mm on a CL
Fuji 90mm on a 690

Best of 50 and 35

DouglasGottlieb: Ugh. Canon is never going to do mirrorless right no matter what Sharky James says in every podcast.

At least Nikon has finally woken up.

I cannot believe that everyone is letting Sony have the entire FF mirrorless space to themselves. (Leica is not a competitor).

Maybe Ricoh Pentax will jump in.

Right = FF and EF mount
Wrong = Anything not EF mount
Partial credit = APSC and EF mount, so long as also doing FF. Else, fail.

DouglasGottlieb: In the history of photography, has there ever been a mainstream camera category where one manufacturer went unchallenged for years?

Rangefinder
SLR
Point and Shoot
120 film
Digital point and shoot
Digital SLR
Compact mirrorless
Action camera
360 VR camera

On and on.

But only Sony makes a mainstream FF mirrorless?

Sure, Canon is #1 by a mile and will likely continue to be for some time. That's all the more reason to experiment and innovate. They have the resources.

Enough people want a high end FF mirrorless. Why has nobody else entered this space?

Canon said: "We were expecting to see more mirrorless taking off, keeping that momentum, but that has not happened."

So they were expecting the category to explode, but did nothing but the EOSM?
