Thanks for the info ! Well, even if FRV would use the embedded jpg for the the grid view (as they do now), but then use the (slow) SDK when double clicking to review the image in detail - that ...

Just reviving this thread to see if anyone has any solution for a fast raw viewer that supports HE* raw files. I've been watching Fast Raw Viewer - but they've been looking at the format for maybe ...

The Nikon 120-300 is heavy indeed. I wish it was lighter. But, in my experience that's its only weakness. It's crazy sharp wide open at all focal lengths, and focuses very fast.

300/f2.8 is absolutely bread-and-butter for wildlife (not birds, mammals). The fact that no other manufacturers make one dedicated for mirrorless means nothing : Canon has an utterly outstanding...

Far too late. This is a bread and butter lens for wildlife photography. Sony have been resting on their laurels w.r.t. wildlife lenses for some time. ( Love what Nikon is doing with their TC...

I've had extensive experience with both the A1 and Z9 for BIF and slow moving/stationary wildlife. Latest firmware for both (as of Jan 2023). My opinions : - the A1 is significantly better at ...

Yes, actually a lot of experience with that as well. It is fairly close to the A1 for locking and staying on small/eratic birds, but I would give the A1, the nod. All 3 cams do well with...

I've used the Z9 and A1 both extensively. I agree with everything said here - except : if fast/erratic moving birds is your priority for wildlife, the A1 is the better camera. It is...

Interesting. Note, though, that Canon's own MTF chart for their EF 800 F5.6 shows resolution above 0.95. Whereas their MTF chart for their RF 800 F5.6 is just above 0.80

moTmeN The Canon RF 800 and 1200 are essentially the RF 400 and RF 600 with 2x permanently extenders built-in (can't turn them off). Look at physical design as well as the MTF charts - the...

Completely agree northlarch. Nikon's innovations for wildlife photographers are really making a difference (their compact 400 & 800, and the 400 and 600 with TC). Also their firmware updates...

Kara - can I ask if you processed any raw photos (DNG files) ? And if so, what software did you use for that and how did you find the accuracy of the colors ? (I've been disappointed with the...

Pro-capture (aka Pre-capture) is a game changing feature for unpredictable wildlife and other action photography. Eg. a snake striking it's target - I for one, can't react near quick enough to ...

This technology seems to be about forgery protection - ie : prevent alterations from being passed off as the original creator's work. It does not seem to be about copy/theft prevention or just...

These are just EF 400 F2.8 and EF 600 EF F4 lenses with the optics of a 2x extender built-in, but with no ability to 'turn off' the extender. The MTFs of these new lenses are, for most intents...

My conclusion as well. Albeit, there has been some minor optimizations as the MTFs of these new lenses are very slightly better than their 400w2x and 600w2x counterparts. But those MTFs...
