at PanaVision they used to match the camera body with the lens. The Gaffer and DP would go to the shop and test combinations, develop the film and pick the combination they liked...

I'm glad I learned on Film in the early 90s, with a Nikon F, 35mm, 105mm and a 58mm I think. Learned more at the camera store and the lab than I've ever learned online. $02
