On article Canon EOS 7D Mark II Review (1299 comments in total)

WOW, the 7D Mark II is really a niche product! For the average photographer, can't think of one good reason to go for the Mark II. I have noticed on the DPREVIEW traffic meter that it is generating very little interest, this is a half baked offering. Not interested at all.

I have two major gripes about Canon.

1) White balance - always fighting that battle.
2) Autofocus - even on the 7D MKII the focus is not great on some of the shots.

That said, there is no alternative with regards to camera systems.

I think I can explain why Canon gets the in-depth reviews, besides the speculation that Canon paid for the expenses in cases like this. If you ask the major retouching studios what cameras are used for print, web and portrait use you will get the answer that 95% of all commercial images come from Canon bodies with Canon lenses. You go where the money is, simple answer.
As far as I know, not one image from a Sony has been post processed by a major retouching studio.
If you want supporting data for my claims, please contact me and I will put you in touch with someone at the top retouching studios.

70mm is a great focal length for APS-C. Glad to see this sample!

I have to say this was a good review and the samples are balanced and selected well. There is a a good variety of subjects and lighting situations. Not sure why anyone would just jump in and start comparing to this or that, these samples stand on their own merits.

The exposure and WB seem pretty good to me. I would be happy with the 7D II.

The Sony A35 DSLT. It has some features that are better than the A58 (better LCD) but lower resolution. It looks like to me that Sony is dropping the low end in favor of the A3000 which appears to have some unfortunate compromises.

Photography studios are all over the place regarding ethics and ownership. I was strolling past a photographer's display of samples and work and discovered a photo of my daughter! The school photographer was using it without permission, I am pretty sure they didn't know whose child it was anyway. They offered me nothing in the way of compensation even after being informed on the identity and never asked for permission going forward.

On this one, I have to side with the Waltons. They paid to have the photos taken and therefore own them.

Personally, I have bought most of my gear from Best Buy. Bought my 600D, 15-85mm from a store, 70-300 online from BB. The reason I did this was because they have most common items in stock locally.

Got my Speedlight 430 and 40mm lens from B&H in the store (NY).

I purchased a cleaning kit from Amazon and it was a clone, very poor quality branded as Canon. Got two hoods from Amazon, one was good the other doesn't fit and broke. Wary of getting repackaged items on Amazon.

Rented studio lighting and 5D's from Calumet, good equipment, cost $2k though but needed the gear. Now, not sure where to rent gear from.

Interesting comparison, not sure if I see the point of the exercise. The 300d was the first generation and OM is a 4/3 with EVF etc. Owned a 300d myself and find that the 18-55 that came with it is better than the standard kits lens on the 650d.
300d is perfectly acceptable but the lack of detail lets it down. Also outrageous fringing (purple).

Buyer beware, this model will be replaced by another in 12 months. Sony has a way of making something "new" obsolete in no time at all.
