  • That seems to work for mine too (actually half-depress will do the trick). When I go back to view a picture though, it will often freeze again. :-( The camera has never completely frozen on me, I ...
  • Replied in NAS online
Because I have a NAS sitting there that could do the job. I can't really use dropbox for thousands of raw pictures...
  • I installed one of the many "wifi analyzer" apps that one can find on Android. Looks like I have good reception and good throughput.  I may not need a new router after all!  Thanks Billiam29.
  • Thanks again tkbslc . I actually bought the Archer C1900 when it came on sale but "the authorities" did not like it because it was white.  Back it went. I think that ½ speed on wireless would still ...
  • In my case, it is not from the road, I might be around the house using my Surface.  I want access to all my photos (just under 40,000 RAW files). I guess I believe (hope) that one tool can do it all...
  • Replied in NAS online
Right but you can't access your files from the other computers when your main desktop is off (for example).
  • Accessing the backup version of the NAS?  You mean the one on the USB drive that I leave in the office? Or the backup folder on the NAS that I keep separate from the "on line" files?  Regardless, ...
  • Replied in NAS online
I would hope that the probability to have my main computer HDD and NAS HDD go down at the same is very low. Isn't the NAS' RAID 1 setup giving me a reasonable level of risk though?
  • Thanks tkbslc .  Very interesting. It seems that you are doing exactly what I would like to achieve. Although your experience tells me that I may need to upgrade my router if I want good speed over ...
  • Thanks SushiEater . RAID 0 gives you good performance but no backup between the two disk drives though. I'd like to get both speed and RAID 1 on one device.  (ideally)
  • Replied in NAS online
Why is that Chris?  We're only talking about a home setup here, nothing fancy.
  • Thanks Pete. (Of course) I did not do the testing you are proposing.  That seems to be elaborate and was hoping to get "testimonies" that would validate my assumptions/readings. I looked up my ...
  • Replied in NAS for backup
For backup, yes, no one would really care if it is slower. I want to access my photo library from other computers as well though, that's the problem.
  • Yes StIves, I have been reading a bit about this and the QNAP's throughput is about 3 times what I have on the Buffalo (around 40 MB/s on Buffalo I think and over 130 MB/s on the QNAP).  That ...
  • Thanks Nic.  However, if one runs a NAS un-RAID, isn't that defeating the purpose?  Or at least one part of the purpose?  I run my Buffalo NAS as RAID 1 to get the redundancy.
  • Thanks Chris.  I am trying to determine if a NAS can be used "on line"...
  • Thanks Andrew. I have a three-stage backup setup I guess.  Photos on my main computer get backed up to the NAS.  Most of my photo library is directly on the NAS and is backed up through RAID 1 and ...
  • I have been using a Buffalo LS-WVL NAS for a few years to automatically backup my computers (desktop, laptop, daughter's computer) and it has been running fine. I'm also using the same NAS to store ...
  • Yes, of course.  Too bad we don't get TTL with that combination though.
  • Thanks Steve.  Given that I already have the AD360, I thought the X1N trigger kit would give me a quick and easy solution...
