Canon EOS 40D
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Just bought a used one (only 5500 exp.). I'm just very pleased with the 5D Mk II, and now I'm on a learning curve (FF / DOF). Since I come from a 40D, I have absolutely NO problems with the AF of the 5D II, it does behave almost identical to the 40D's. It's just a question of knowing how to use, and which use of the camera, and so on ...
A classic and a perfect companion to my 5D Mk II
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM
Some fine optics, still carrying a modest pricetag. When learning what to avoid using this gem, to get the best out of it, even mounted on a camera like the 5D MkII it can deliver superb results EVERY time! (main weakness approx. 270mm-300 mm). From 70-200 mm it's razor sharp all the way (1 or 2 stops down), with very little distorsion or CA. Avoid using it wide open beyond 200 mm focal length, unless max "background blur" is a must. I can easily confirm what's been said about this zoom: "Pssst... Canon forgot to put an 'L' on this one"...-don't tell them.
Used this on my 40D. wonderful walkabout / standard / wideangle / short tele zoom! In the wide end, it's SHARP as h... fully open, in the center! Just a tad less sharp in the range 70-85 mm. When stopping down, the center loose just a tiny bit of its max sharpness, but in return you get still top, even sharpnes all the way out to the corners. An extremely versatile lens, blistering fast, accurate and silent AF(even on a 40D, on a 7D it feels like instant!). The IS is top (yes, even a man my age (57) has achieved the promised 4 - four - f-stops "gain" from time to time. Not every shot, 3 stops is 'bankers'. Now maybe I have to let it go, a bit sadly ...
Ultrasharp Macro, silent, fast & very precise AF, OS (IS) a bit noisy now and then. Manual focus is silky smooth - can be really fine-tuned even when working with true macro, AF can be overridden any time. Using contrast detect AF can result in a lot of "hunting" when in macro range (I don't care, just use manual / "loupe" then...). All in all, a superb piece of optics. Very sharp fully open (f2.8), razor sharp from f4.0 edge to edge. Bokeh' : A "cream" ... ;)
