JasonTheBirder: You are right, it is probably not overly crucial for the home or small business user. But, I am glad Backblaze publishes this data because it probably puts a bit more pressure on the manufacturers to keep up quality, since their published stats are so well-known.

Failure statistics can change from month to month. When I get read to buy a drive I always check reliability ratings on what is available in the market at that time before I buy. I have 2 3.5" drives in use, both HGST. I have 3 portable 2.5" drives- 2 Seagate and 1 Toshiba. I have not had any problems with any of these drives.

Class leading reliability? They still don't have it, according to online reviews.
