jpatkinson's current gear

Ricoh GR
Nikon D5600
Nikon D800
Heavy. Demanding. Huge file sizes. With careful shot discipline, I can get tack sharp photos with stupid levels of detail and massive file sizes. The D700 had more soul.
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F1.8G
Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm F2.8G ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F4G ED VR
Never disappoints.
I like the rendering here better than any of my 85mm Nikkor lenses. Must be the nano coating. Supremely versatile lens. My favorite lens, ever.
Apple iPhone 6
I love this camera. Sharp? No But, it focuses where I ask, exposes reasonably well, and takes great panos.

jpatkinson's previous gear

Canon PowerShot S400 (Digital IXUS 400)
Canon PowerShot SD1000 (Digital IXUS 70)
Canon PowerShot G7
Worked like a charm until it died. Brick.
Fantastic design. Microscopic sensor.
Fujifilm FinePix X100
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1
Lovely JPEG engine, but horrible handling. Useless live view. Parallax frustration. Macro uses control pad.
Amazing camera. I gave it to my brother in August 2013.
This "replaced" my D700. I really, really wanted to like this camera. The damn thing just couldn't focus well enough for me to use it when it mattered, let alone keep it. $1000 down the drain with 6m of some beautiful, frustratingly-obtained photographs.
Nikon D100
Nikon D700
Sony Alpha NEX-6
This was my first real digital camera. Used it for almost six years. Loved it.
I miss this camera almost every day. AF was the bomb. Huge pixels.
This was a difficult camera to give up; amazing IQ, especially with the SEL50F18. Returned to get RX1. Edit: I prefer this to the RX1.
Nikon AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D
Nikon AF Nikkor 35mm f/2D
Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D
Love the focal length. Sold with D700.
My most heavily used lens on D700 and for good reason.
Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D
Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D
Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D
Beautiful results. Heavy glass. My favorite family photos were taken with this.
This was a great lens for my D100 and FM3A. Don't recall why I sold it.
TACK sharp. Nice lens.
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G
Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm F1.8G
Brilliant lens, but slow to focus on NEX-6. I love this angle of view.
Lovely bokeh. Frustrating CR.
Sony E 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 PZ OSS
Too much distortion and vignetting (severe) at wide end. Soft anywhere but f/11.
