SONY 10-18 no longer needed, as TAMRON has got a 12-24 APS-C in pipeline. See sony alpha rumors...

result sgp: So close to 16mm, too bad they couldn't get a tiny bit wider.
Still, a great addition for Sony APS-C E mount.

Seems nobody here did watch the promotion video with picture samples. There nearly is no difference to see in the wide area between SONY 16mm of 16-55G and this Tamron 17mm. So "would be nice it would be 1mm wider" ist obsolete ;-

Ziginox: Damn, of course they had to release it two months after I bought Sony's own 16-55mm 2.8!
One thing to note, the Sony lens is ever so slightly smaller and lighter, but also has a shorter minimum focusing distance. Looks like the maximum reproduction ratio is pretty close between the two, with the focal length difference, though. I'll be especially interested to see how quickly this lens focuses. The addition of VC would be nice for cameras without IBIS. The custom button on the lens would be nice, though.

Not that it truly matters, the Sony lens is a very nice piece of kit, and I don't regret it in the slightest.

It was a big mistake from SONY to produce a standard zoom lens without stabilization. Only answer for me was to refuse bying it.
