On article Fujifilm GFX100 sets new benchmark in our studio scene (227 comments in total)

ProDude: I'm sorry but the Panasonic S1R is far more versatile let alone with it's pixel shift can easily match or beat the GFX100. I'm sure they realize this but are just going with their flow as usual. I don't find the S1R lacking any sharpness either.

Does the pixel shift work with flash?

Out of these three Panasonic is the only one that feels good in the hand. Too bad that it too doesn't have real viewfinder

Thoughts R Us: Imagine if the car were being replaced by some new form of transportation tech...let's say teleportation (obviously the example is not meant to be realistic but only to illustrate a point).

There would still be a small cadre of people who would choose to own a car. What types of cars would these people want? Would they want the standard run of the mill model out today, with all of its nice advancements and comforts? Or would they yearn for a return to basics, and have those classic cars from the past, like the Mustang, the Corvette, the classic Porsche's and BMWs, etc?

It could very well be the same way with dedicated cameras. The ones who choose to own one will want it for the romance and user experience. That's one reason why camera companies only chasing better specs are going down an eventual dead end.

Proper analogy would be electric cars vs traditional combustion engine

Enginel: Funny this is, modern Nikon aps-c DSLRs don't accept Pronea lenses despite pronea lenses having even somewhat wider coverage than digital aps-c

It's not about the size of the image circle but the design of the lens. Pronea-lenses extend way more into the mirror box than F-lenses.

milkod2001: Over the top as it gets but if you can find fool to pay for it why not. Would not drone with attached camera offer much smoother video at like 10% of price? Plus it can offer video from above while this car setup cannot?

Point me a drone that's capable offering even 100mph while flying road level in the turbulence of another car in front. I agree that there's propably a car that's a bit more sensible than that lambo though.

SimenO1: Its quite a price for such a lens. I guess the price are a result of a lack of healthy competition. If there was real competition the price would likely be much lower.

A 200/3,2 on FF will give us the same FOV, same DOF, same shot noise at the same shutter speed and so on. Resolution may be the only point where it is better then FF, but that is yet to be proven (5DSR+EF200/2.8 vs GFX+250/4 vs K-1 PS+200/2.8)

The lens is cheap compared to what other MF manufacturers have to offer so I'd say that the competition is healty as lenses in similar focal lenght(250-300mm) and aperture(f/4-f/4.5) cost around 4500$-6500$.

Bas Bridges: Pentax needs to change its business model to Adobe's. I would pay 5-10 dollar per month if it meant the k-1 would eventually be mirrorless, have rapid AF, serious video specs, and more of lenses. The incentive to subscribe would be that you build credit which lets you update your camera with more software features.

The current small-time fringe existence is not what pentax deserves...

I would pay 5-10$/month to keep the K-1 from turning to mirrorless.

$150 lens vs $15,000 lens: Can you tell the difference?

From a finished film, perhaps not. But when you are making the film? Definitely.

Techo: Oh great, a v12 Ferrari up against a stock Mustang. I wonder which will go faster ;) This seems like a test for shits and giggles. The graphics card in this costly iMac Pro costs as much the Alienware configuration. This PC vs MAC thing is getting really old. Considering that, sans the laptop, all these can +/- use the same parts. This iMac Pro vs Alienware test is very vague and can be misleading to folks who aren't up to date on the latest processor and pc news in general. I'd bet if one assembles the kit themselves with the parts used in the iMac Pro, they will easily save at least a k or more. Most people aren't willing to spend 6k, the ones that are don't need this test. Perhaps a more useful test would be a $1500 vs $2000 vs $2500 with current configs and 2-3 ago configs and show people how much more an upgrade can give them based on their budget.

@Toselli Xeon w-2145(closest to the W-2140b Apple uses but upper range) would cost 750$ more(depending on mb, seems that some are even cheaper than the x299 Gigabyte) and changing memory to Samsung DDR4 2666 ECC just 200$ more so we are still shy of the 6400$ price tag.

You cannot get the EXACT same components as some of these are not on consumer sale. On the other hand you will get a pc built with comparable OR faster components cheaper. Define R5 Case 110$, Thermaltake 850w PSU 120$, Corsair 64GB 2666mhz DDR4 750$, Gigabyte x299 MB 350$, i7 7820X (faster desktop version of the 8core Xeon-W) 570$, Thermaltake liquid cooler 140$, Vega 64 FE 16GB 950$, Samsung 960pro 1TB m.2 640$ and LG 27MD5KB-B 5K monitor(EXACT same panel used in Apple's 5K) 1300$. Grand total under 5000$ so you can still afford far better mouse&keyboard combo than Apple's and get a drawing tablet too(and still have over 1000$ left for upgrading your system or getting better monitor). Prices were rounded up from Newegg and I didn't bother looking for the cheapest parts. If I forgot something please call me out.

In reply to:

Stephen McDonald: According to what measure, are these the most popular? I didn't see any that I would have posted in public view, if they had been mine. As anyone can see, those that feature naked women, always get the most views, but not a one of those here. Did Flickr or DPR censor these?

Usually I don't want to be this rude but I'll make an exception as your comment was just as rude towards the photographers in question. The only reason you haven't posted any of these (or anything like them) to public view is that by judging your gallery posts you are not capable producing anything like these.

sportyaccordy: What does this do that my UHD AOC 32" can't?

Well it depends on the model but I assume that you have the U3277PWQU model which is the "professional" AOC display in this class and the Philips has wider color gamut, for example.

AOC on the other hand is UHD and Philips is QHD.

Pooya Rastin: All you negative people: Just think about the possibilities. You can do the same thing with your phones. It's not all about the Iphone X. You can do it with any recent phone which most of you already have one.

Yes, if you have gimbals, microfones, sliders, macro lenses and LIGHTING. Dumbest thing of all is to say "this was shot with this camera" when the camera is but a small part of the whole production.

Too bad that it's the same kind of form before function design like apple keyboards.

And yet the limits of the sensor of iPhone 7 are reached. Look at the ugly blown highlights in last two photos. Also first two with red color in keylight are blown too but the color somewhat hides that.

On article Video: How to make a DIY 'beauty dish' for $12 (30 comments in total)
In reply to:

Digitalis32: I detest umbrella lighting - sure it is cheap and easy to set up, but you give up a lot of control for the sake of cheap, easy convenience. I use softboxes, striplights and beauty dishes with grids a lot so I can control the area of illumination. You can't do that with umbrellas, they just spray light everywhere.

Also, it depeds a lot of the distance between the light and the model. But totally agree, softboxes are easier to control.
