walker2000: Thanks for sharing this excellent documentary video, although I have no clue what advantages Sony A9 has here.

Higher sales bonus compared to Canikon, Oly/Pana etc. This article is sponsored by Sony and Amazon. 1+1

Phase detection? Oh, I thought the reason were the clickthroughs to Amazon...

Nikoncanonfan: I wonder what proportion of high end cameras are purchased by females? I don't suppose there are any statistics on this. If I had to guess it would be a small percentage.

during the Taipei Universiade I have seen several female photographers with Canon gear, two with Sony A9, 0 using Nikon. And I'm talking about the accredited photographers shooting next to the athletes, no idea about the spectators.

I currently use X8 and didn't buy X9 simply because the extra features didn't seem to be worth it. Glad I didn't pickup all those 75% off offers to upgrade that showed up recently xD

Time to upgrade!

Constantine e: I really dislike (if not to say hate) those managers in Canon who did this "cost-effective" decision that also "benefits" market segmentation between 5d and 6d users. Being a manager in another HiTech area, I can sense the following strategy that they took:
1) This 6DmII specific sensor is cheap to produce due to old processes
2) The option of taking already-in-place 5DmIV sensor kills market segmentation
3) User opinion was not much taken into account
4) Competitive analysis was not given priority

Where is my high quality portable full framer now, ah???

It's called "an hyperbole", but I'm done explaining my point xP

Neither absurd nor far fetched. Every single time a new camera is released by any company there's and endless stream of people complaining about this or that.

This has nothing to do with the 6DmkII though, as it's quite underwhelming regardless of customers' expectations.

Can't blame them for ignoring user's opinions, though. A quick read through a forum like this one and anyone in the marketing team would think that they need to provide a camera with 50mp sensor, 16fps with unlimited raw buffer, a cybernetic AF system that works as a precog and can pre-track the movement of objects that aren't even in the frame yet, 24 stops of dynamic range, 8k video, iso range 100-6000000 and be under 1500$ body only.

I'd buy it, but my 4 years old 6D is still clicking, so no rush ^_^

From July 2015 to September 2016? Holy cow, that's a pretty wide time frame. If the same issue already happened before, how could they end up having it again later on? And for a whole 14 months period?

CaMeRa QuEsT: This is seriously going to kick some Nikon D5500/D5600 butt, so much so that I am thinking of switching my D5500 with this one. The fact that the 10-18mm+50mm kit costs the same as Nikon's 10-20mm alone is reason enough to make the switch! And Canon has a 24mm pancake prime, which is nowhere to be seen in Nikon's world, and 35mm equivalent is my favorite FOV.

10-18 STM + 24mm pancake + 55-250 STM is a really inexpensive and compact kit that packs an incredible price/performance ratio.

David M So: So I'm kinda confused... I get that it's smaller (I've shot with a SL1 before), but is it THAT much of a difference when it comes to packing and carrying one? I mean... if you're getting a camera for size, you might as well get mirrorless like an M6 (which is a pretty decent shooter). What really is the advantage of an SL2 (besides an OVF)?

It's cheaper than an M6 and a lot cheaper than an M5. Battery life is also an advantage, and it's very likely going to perform better in low light (I'm talking af here). Also, some people simply prefer the grip of a dslr.

What's the dynamic range of a terminator? Does it shoot 4k?

TyphoonTW: Step 1) Buy the Ikea trolley/backpack
Step 2) Buy some padded inserts (plenty available specifically for camera gear)
Step 3) With the money saved compared to any "photography trolley backpack", take a weekend trip somewhere

Repeat...what ?_? Backpack trolleys and padded inserts are not 1 use only xD

Canikon release a high mp camera with great dynamic range -> "PFFF DR IS OVERRATED"
Sony releases a high mp camera with great dynamic range:"This is it, Canikon are DONE, DR is EVERYTHING"
Canikon releases high fps camera for sport/action/reportage:"PFFF NO ONE NEEDS THAT, TOO BIG AND HEAVY, FAIL"
Sony releases high fps camera for sport/action/reportage:"ALL HAIL OUR NEW OVERLORD"

Canikon may be boring every now and then, but Sony fanboys never cease to amaze me.

On article Canon EOS Rebel T7i / 800D review (389 comments in total)

The Rebel series used to differentiate itself from the "upper tier" xxD cameras with lower specs, price and size.

Now that a hybrid like the 77D exists, which has basically the specs of the 80D in a Rebel-sized body and at at price that is not much higher than a Rebel, does the 800D still make sense in Canon's lineup? I mean, the last generation of Rebels (750/760D) was clearly aimed at a different market than the 80D, both for specs, price and size. But I don't really see any major selling point that could make me think:"Oh yeah the 800D is clearly aimed at customers X while the 77D is aimed at Y".

For a relatively small price difference, the 77D seems to just bring a lot more on the table than the 800D, without the extra weight and bulk of an 80D. The extra 150$ seem well worth it for me.
