There's plenty of compact cameras with relatively large sensors, as well as mirrorless cameras with sensors up to APS-C size that easily fit in a pocket, all of which can quickly transfer images to any device via WiFi/NFC for immediate backup/editing/sharing.

I cannot fathom how anyone would prefer to rely entirely on a smartphone to take important pictures, but to each their own.

When I was taking pics for the Universiade last year I followed the rules for the media and I wasn't banned. Strange how things go.

The skin tone of the iPhone made the guy look straight out from Sony's Ghostbusters. And it's not a good thing.

CIASpook: I wonder if it would have been easier/less expensive for them to simply let the user crop as they please.

I was thinking the same. On Facebook it's so easy to crop a profile pic, no need for automatic procedures.

tkbslc: What good is a status symbol if you put a cheap lens on it?

Maybe they could market it as an "alternative indie underground hipster" thing?
Like:"Hey, look at my 10000$ Leica camera with a cheap* non-Leica lens, isn't that ironic?".

* = sort of

ecka84: It's not about storage capacity. It's about the price you are asking for it, Samsung.

This x1000. For 20/25$ it's possible to buy good quality microSD cards that add 64gb of storage and can be easily swapped around. Smartphone makers ask A LOT more than that for a 64gb increase in internal memory.

chri1sm1x: No way to get A7R-II to do this with new firmware?

I doubt that a firmware update could make the sensor to physically shift

Marksphoto: eye pupils are not sharp, something is wrong with the photographer is the optics? What's the message here?

Canon made 85 1.8 decades ago, I am not impressed with the specs, oh and I can make way sharper and better looking portraits with that old lens

I guess that having a lens able to produce such a "unique soft rendering" all by itself allows the user to leave the filters at home and focus on a true photography experience. Or at least that's probably what some people will mention while taking soft b&w pics of random strangers walking on the road.

The message is that you can only achieve that "unique soft rendering" by sending 6500 bucks in direction of Leica's bank account.

Is there anyone keeping score of all the comments:"BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE 4K" and :"BUT THE SONY Axxx...." ? I think we may be looking at a world record here.

Months and months of "PREORDER AURORA 2018 PRO" ads everywhere, and then they suddenly change the name ? They couldn't think about it earlier ?_?

raztec: I refuse to buy gear from companies that deliberately make it more inconvenient and expensive for photographers to get spare parts (cables) etc. just for a miserly increase in their profits. Go Canon go...down the rabbithole of greed!

Ah, the dreaded micro-USB cable, produced only by Canon and sold exclusively on the iCanon store for 179.99$ + shipping + taxes.

cdembrey: Why do you process the photos ??? Most camera owners don't—therefore your tests are useless to the casual photographer and the mythical step-up-from-phone user. Give these people SOOC JPEGs to evaluate for themselves, no hand-holding required.

For the enthusiast all you need to do is provide Raw files. They already have a preferred Raw converter. ACDSee Pro, PaintShop Pro, RawTherapee, Capture One. Affinity Photo, whatever.

There are lots of things to review in a camera—features, or lack-there-of should be at the top of the list. Then ergonomics/usability are really important, i.e. will the viewfinder work well for left eye-dominant people? Accessories you expect to find in the box, like Canon's software discs, which are missing from the M100's box.

He took the M100 to spend some time using it, and he shouldn't edit his photos the way he likes because some people spend 1k$+ on cameras and keep them in full auto shooting jpg?

Is it? I thought that PhotoLab would just be an update to the current software to add the Nik Collection stuff.

monked: $1300 seems steep. Can't you get any number of apsc icl cameras for less?

You can get an M6 with 15-45 kit lens + 22mm f2 and still have plenty of leftover cash. Even an M5 with the same lenses would be cheaper than the G1X mkIII, if one really needs the viewfinder.

I had no interest in this camera prior to the announcement, yet that aperture gave me blueballs. Feelsbadman.
