  • Replied in Wrong Name!
I don’t think this should happen with any camera, regardless of its price or name. If it happened with Panasonic’s cheap GF line, I would say the same thing. Spend a little more or add a little ...
  • Based on the theoretical MTFs, it looks to me like the 12-100 is better than the 12-45 at all overlapping focal lengths. It's not huge, but it looks better to me, especially centrally. I always ...
  • That isn't any type of ISO 200 noise I've ever seen. It looks like a very high ISO. I don't know if it's a defective camera or something else, but I don't think a normally functioning GX7 would ...
  • Replied in GX9 or EM5III?
I don’t know yet how the E-M5 III focuses in video, but I know that with the most recent firmware on the E-M1 II, the video AF was much improved due to enabling PDAF in video. If that’s something ...
  • Replied in The best two
FWIW I can recommend the 45-175. Very sharp at 175mm. Unlike most of these lenses, it seems more optimized for sharpness at the long end rather than the short end. I can’t give a comparison of course.
  • Replied in The best two
I'll preface this by saying that I only own one, so can't give a firsthand comparison. The best two in this class are probably the 45-175 and the 45-150. I explain my reasoning here: https://www.dp ...
  • Replied in GX85
Probably the best bet on a used body is the GX85. Panasonic generally has better AF performance on the lower and mid-range bodies. That will probably change soon now that Olympus is starting to ...
  • Replied in 12-35?
The 12-40 is sharper in the corners and edges overall and it's sharper at 12mm than the 12-35. The 12mm for the12-40 is probably the strongest performance of either lens. But if you look at DxO, ...
  • Replied in 12-35?
4mm shorter length (70 vs 73.8mm) than the 12-35/2.8 and 50g lighter in weight (254g vs 305g). So just slightly smaller. You get 45mm on the long end vs 35mm, but you lose one full stop throughout ...
  • You would know if the file size of the file you uploaded doesn't match the file that's on the Google Drive. But I looked at the codecs used for the videos. The Sony was XAVC 100Mbps at 29.97p, ...
  • I watched both videos and, if I had to pick the sharper one, I'd pick the GH5. The GH5 video has a greater DoF than the A7III, so more is in focus, but I only compared the in focus areas, like the ...
  • Do you have a source for that? I thought they were optically identical, including the coatings.
  • I would argue there isn't enough to go on. The cameras are too closely matched to decide on one without some more esoteric requirement that one camera can fulfill better than the other. And you ...
  • For me, the E17ed makes the 45-175 into two different lenses, a 45-175 and a 75-300. But it’s only really worth it to me if it’s sharper (or optically the same) than the 75-300 and 100-300. If the ...
  • Do you happen to know how the 45-175/E17ED combo compares in the center to the 100-300, say with both at f/7.1 at their maximum focal length (300mm)? That's the real question to me. I know the ...
  • Yep. That's pretty much a mirror image of mine. Centrally, adding the E17ED doesn't degrade sharpness much. Massive falloff in sharpness in the corners and edges though. That's the issue. Because ...
  • So, I did some more testing with the 45-175 and the E17ED. I would say the sweet spot is around f/7.1 throughout the focal length range with the TC. Without the teleconverter, the 45-175 is sharp ...
  • So I tried the E17ed with the 45-175. I used the Breakthrough 46-60mm step up ring. The fit seems perfect and it seems stable and secure without any extra support for the TC. But it’s been only ...
  • It is what it is. Obviously I’d prefer it if cameras had unlimited configurability (maybe an expert mode in addition to their standard mode). If that isn’t possible with stock software, I’d like ...
