PedroMZ: The one advantage of this sorry tale is that all the critics on DPR who have been bashing MFT for years(unjustifiably IMHO) will have to find some other target. That will be a pleasant change.

Panasonic next then...

Cobus S: Let's face it. Olympus is gone. Sell your gear and start the journey with a different company.

Why? my Olympus gear works fine, and will probably do so many years to come.

Is this camera a sign that Panasonic will be the next camera brand to throwing in the towel?

Lucas1964: Robin Wong thinks that Olympus will just continue as a brand...

Robin works for Olympus, and it's his job to try to calm the market, but who will buy an Olympus camera after this sad story? JIP is likely to strip the company into small pieces, sell all patents and squeeze the Olympus brand while slowly dying.

Jones Indiana: It is a truly sad day, but it didn't come as a surprise.

I was made out for a fool when I said Olympus would quit its camerabusiness before the end of year and here we are. Olympus officially announcing they are stepping out of the consumer camera market.

It is the same kind of retreat as Samsung did a few years ago.
This probably is also the death of MFT. I do not see Panasonic willing to keep this format up. Especially because they need to fight themselves into the FF segment which also costs tons of money.

BTW. Olympus made some great cameras, but their unwillingness to come up with a FF camera was a marketing failure.

No, you can't build small compact FF lenses.

I wonder if there will be a UV filter to protect the sensor 🤔

All are great, but I would choose either number 7 or 8 as my winner.

aris14: UV filters are still and will remain useful for protection of the lens. All other filter use has to do with our needs on the spot and/or our abilities in PP.

Lens Hoods and home insurance take care of protection for me, why degrade image quality if I don't need to?

There is something special about mechanical gadgets, as they have a soul, I own a mechanical Canon F1 (old) myself and it is a fantastic mechanical masterpiece.
