It is extremely poorly done for the price of that camera, I would have done better myself.

A smartphone for the same money is probably a better buy than this camera.

My next camera will be a high-end smartphone.

patfish: OK, Sony has now realized that their menu and touch capabilities from the old models was not up to date- that's great!. But 12Mpix for picture in 2020!??? ... this makes the A7SIII a pure video camera caught in a photo-body ....why? - if you like to shoot only video buy a real video camera like an Ursa mini pro G2/12K or a FX9 with all its benefits!

Further I don't get that low res 1.4 mio. dot screen in a 3.5K camera?

But this is a specialized video camera...

Thecylon: The camera industry is doomed with the current direction. I hate to say it, but these forums are indicative of the problem. An industry cannot survive by catering to the elderly and their refusal to adapt to anything new. No one young wants clunky, gargantuan cameras like many people here salivate over and promote. The "pros" are a tiny amount of people now, with most photography industries gutted(newspapers) and the worshipping by people here show just how out of touch people are. At this point, for the industry to survive, it has to cultivate a young, hobby oriented audience. Every fight against this is another nail in the coffin.

Thecylon, I'm 63 years old and I agree with you 100%, we want cameras like they were when we were young, big, bulky and impressive, just like our HIFI equipment.

PickCellPepper: Compare the gloom with the number of photos being taken..

There's a million times increase in photos being taken compared to a decade back.. 😜

And the majority of them are taken with a smartphone.

Happy Dad: The stabilization is getting rave reviews. Canon deserved to be criticized for not having IBIS, but now they leapfrogged everyone but Olympus?

That alone is an impressive achievement!

Sony doesn't have as much room for the sensor to move around as their competitors, simple as that.

It's about physics, Sony is stuck with a smaller lens mount and will never catch up until they change their lens mount.

bledzo: I think the R6 is a terrific camera and I would swop out my 5D iii for it in a heartbeat if the resolution was nearer 30MP instead of 20MP. I really want that extra res for landscape work and the room to crop and print my work.

R5 is probably the right camera for you then.

The A7 Mark III and Z6 are at there price point way more for the masses that want to dive into FF.

It is even worse in Sweden, 3013€

$2499 for body only, a camera for the masses?

How interesting these telephoto lenses really are depends entirely on how good Canon's new sensors' low ISO performance is.

Ten years ago I would have been interested in this camera, but not now, but it is certainly very good for what it is.
