The 12MP sensor is the deal breaker.
It’s not a competitive stills camera, and it limits 4K video to less than 4K resolution.
Sony’s active steady shot puts a 1.1 crop on all video. And the Bayer sensor reduces resolution more from there.
Over sampling by other cameras also means more color information per pixel for deeper richer color.
All the A7siii video so far looks over sharpen and very digital. It’s impossible to get the real detail and smooth edges, and rich color that other cameras can.
And who wants a camera that you realistically can never crop images? Good luck with those pixelated photos.

What is the working distance for 1:2?
If there is any wind or if the subject is live I find these short focal lengths near impossible to use.
I worry too about the resolving power of this lens.

Wu Jiaqiu: i'd be careful and read your olympus warranties carefully, water damage will void your warranty and i know for the EM1 MKII it tells you NOT to put the camera under running water in a supplement about weather sealing

I vaguely remember the Olympus junket where every journalist was given a camera they soaked in rain and salt water for a few days. Was that in Iceland?
Not one complained about weather sealing, just the opposite. Every review had a picture of a soaked Olympus and raved about how well it was built .
That was gutsy marketing you have to respect.

Olympus revenge ploy.

Get everyone who doesn’t own an Olympus to ruin their cameras.
I’d never attempt it. Most sealed cameras aren’t.

I’ll just zoom bomb it.

Mr A7R4: It looks like a versatile lens. Nice focal length range.
I’d settle for a 300mm f2.8 prime for my Sony but alas all we have is an old A mount lens.

Go ahead, rub it in.
For most of us Sony users adapted lenses don’t work near as well as on other systems.

A mount on A7riv = 2.5 FPS.
☹️

These are fun.

Why doesn’t this site occasionally have articles on the photo contests here. They are the best part of the site IMHO.

I can remember when I bought my first 24MP camera. Noise looked finer and resulting photos looked better.
I am using 61MP and I’ll never go back to 24MP..
So 12MP? Don’t make me laugh.

Am I insane to want one as a backup and travel camera? I don’t feel comfortable taking my $6000 kit everywhere.

Is it really any better than the Mark iii?

Thanks for making me feel old. I knew the names of everyone in the photos and didn’t need the descriptions.
If it were stars of 2020 I’d probably only get marshmallo right, mostly by luck because he looks like a marshmallow.
