Photography award photo article on DPReview. Cue the moronic comments about the price of certain cameras, or how they could do better. Never disappoints.

@bigsensor-Better? How so? Are you talking resolution and dynamic range. Is an oil painting better than a watercolor painting because of resolution or dynamic range? You have obviously missed the point that people create art using different media. Some people want different things than you. I know...the horror.

Poor landscaper. You seem agitated that basically no one agrees with you. Piece of advice. When everyone else in the bar is telling you that you’re drunk, you probably are.

Landscaper, I think you are confused. I was never never countering your opinion, because your opinion is off topic for the post. As well, being that you do this continuously in each film post, you are trolling. If you don’t believe me, try going to the Canon forum and in every thread post about how Nikon is better and you would never use Canon. See how long you last. Finally, it seems most don’t agree with you.

@landscaper1 - Yes, we know. Every time there is a film post you come to tell us all how digital is superior. Why don’t you just stay out of these posts and let the rest of us enjoy something different from you.

Reilly Diefenbach: One of these gimcracks or two D850s. Tough decision!

A D850 with the same quality lens is $4700. You won’t get two of those for $6000

GinoSVK: Lens able to deliver excellent portraits, as those in gallery, but hardly any image sharpness to speak of at f/1, latest Fuji sensors just demand better optics.

I saved some of the samples and applied some extra sharpening in Photoshop. These are plenty sharp if you wish to enhance every pore on a face.

OliverHarrison72: They're not $20 by a long shot (around $500USD on ebay), but imo by far the best value in digital cameras going right now is the Sony a77ii (with this same Minolta heritage). 24MP, decent in low light (not great) and the lens selection is vast and cheap. You can get some fantastic Minolta glass for a fraction of the price of anything new for a mirrorless system. I've been stocking up. :)

The article is about a film camera. Nobody cares what he thinks a good value is for digital. Go find a digital thread for that and pound away on the keyboard.

Not sure what you are smokin, but a quick look at eBay has them all well under $80. And I have no idea what you are talking about digital cameras for. This is a film camera.

Coomer: Does it come with an ice pack?

@Jonpais, I just checked the Photonstophotos site for the dynamic range measurement. The R5 is the same as the Sony a73 with 12 stops.

Weird. I didn’t see you make the same comment in posts and threads about Sony cameras overheating. Really weird. Don’t you think?

Picked the Leica in every sample. The Leica had smoother transitions with less false color and CA. Anyone fooled by this should just go buy a point and shoot or a dslr and a kit lens.

thxbb12: Here we go, dpreview does it again: in the whole gallery, there is only a SINGLE photo shot at the maximum aperture of f1.4...
Dpreview staff: for future reviews of fast lenses, please show us what the lens is capable of at maximum aperture, that's what interest photographers the most.
If I buy a 85mm f1.4 lens it's to use it at f1.4, not at f2 or f4.
I don't care how well it performs at f2 or f2.8 (very likely very well) and even less at f4 or f7.

@Matthew - Agreed. This seems to be the mantra of those who don’t know how to use their gear. It is easy to create fine photographs that don’t involve one eye in focus. If this fellow can’t figure out how to use photographic equipment, he should just use a cell phone so it can think for him.

Andrew_EOSHD: Your journalism is pathetic and amounts to asking a marketing department. When Samsung left the camera market even their senior PR people claimed the story wasn't true. You did not ask the source, you asked a PR person. Do you really think a PR person either knows what will be decided in a senior meeting in Japan or is able and willing to go above their station to confirm or deny the delays of the second shipment?

@biggercountry - Ditto. If this is the garbage he spews, he can sit on his soapbox and be ignored. What a self important nobody

ukaskew37: You can imagine the marketing team when the engineers told them this had to have 12 megapixels, in a world where new smartphones can have at least have 3x as many.

Fair play to Sony for seeing it through though.

Low resolution sensor that doesn’t really deliver any benefit at high iso. Nice EVF that I hope will be used more often. At this price, no thanks.

hidden1: I do not make money from photography so budget and value for money is important. While the features of the new z are great, it is not really cheap. Especially when you factor in the cost of 2 or 3 lenses.

There are large gaps in z mount for the budget conscious. Eg no nifty fifty, no cheap but acceptable 70-300, no entry level macro and no third party options.

So While this is great stuff, I think it is not enough to attract photographers who want to move up to full frame.

There is indeed a 50. And there is a 50-250

landscaper1: Seriously? I don't get the whole "return to film" thing, but fer cryin' out loud, if that's what you're into, then do it right and buy some honest to gosh film developer to process your precious exposed emulsions. Then, when you're done, go have yourself a cuppa java using the coffee the way it was meant to be used. :^))

If only I could post the Meme of the old man yelling at a cloud.
