Thanks!

dr.noise: Sigma, Panasonic, Sony... I still don't understand. Why a firmware update (in camera and/or recorder) is needed to record something from HDMI? How HDMI recorders worked before? Why a camera can output HDMI to a TV and neither of them needs firmware update but suddenly Atomos Ninja is different story?

I have some old Ninja recorder and it can record ProRes from any HDMI source so still don't understand the need for firmware update.

@Hoxton Bridge

It's also not the best. There are no best camera systems.

rgs_45: Why can’t some people appreciate a photo taken by a Smartphone camera? That they have to brag about the “real” camera(s) they own that can take gazillion times better, and that they could magnify it at gazillion percent and still looks good.

There are several smartphone photographers out there that can take better photos than most of the people here and yet are not acknowledge because they are not using a “real” camera. Similarly, there people here that own the latest camera equipment(s) and yet they can only take snapshot type photos (me included)..

All in all, I like the photos. Yes, it looks bad viewing at 100% or even at 50% but the viewing medium for smartphone photos is through a smartphone screen. I give credit to those smartphone photographers that can go out there and take the pictures they want but I don’t go out of my way to bash the photographers nor their equipment that can only take snapshot type photos.

The same question, why do they have to brag that the photo is taken on an iPhone? Is it impossible with any other decent smartphone?

dstate1: The price of a Leica is both the cost to buy it and the price you sell it for later. Considering the fact that the ancient M8 is still selling for 40-50% of its original price I’d say the total cost of ownership is not outrageous.

The lenses have historically held or even increased in value, so they are also a pretty good “value” if you can imagine that word in this context.

I’m long out of my “Leica phase” but I still understand why they are desirable.

There are loads of people snorting their money away or donating it to gambling casinos. This is a much better way to enjoy your money 😀

But why would you sell a Leica? It suddenly becomes not good enough?

So other cameras are not taking photos, ok.

Why there is someone on the photo shooting the camera without a lens? Does it help prevent overheating?

JJBerlin: Because dpreview constantly refuses to translate unusable technical specs ("Millions of dots") into actually relatable specs, let me do that for you:

The electronic viewfinder has a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.
The back screen has a resolution of 1024×684 pixels.

@dpreview: seriously, why don't you do that in your articles?

saved my day!

Where the 8K RAW output is supposed to go?

dr.noise: Is there a way to losslessly recompress the existing videos to reduce their size?

Yes, the data savings have already been taken, but this H.266 codec takes 50% more, so I wanted to know if it is able to recompress the existing videos in a similar manner, but without further quality loss. I mean, it could be compatible with older codecs and optimize the compressed data in some new way (where does 50% come from?)

Just curious. During the past years, I read many times about the "All-new mirror mechanism to reduce vibration and blackout". If each time vibrations and blackout were reduced, I suppose the mirror mechanism now must be vibration and blackout free on a sub-quantum level. Same for the AF that becomes better every time. How good it must be now? Focusing in zero time in full darkness?

Robert A: You know, I'd be all over this system if the camera body offered a viewfinder. I just can't compose on a camera-back screen.

The problem is, fp's LCD is unusable in bright sunlight. It is very reflective so if you wear black you have some slight chance, but if you wear white you will see literally nothing, except your own reflection. Adding optical VF will require awkwardly side-mounted cold shoe adapter and you cannot use it with manual lenses. Adding the LCD loupe-type adapter will make the camera so bulky that I don't even want to think about it, also it costs money.

> When paired with an Atomos Ninja V updated with the latest firmware, the fp is able to record Apple ProRes RAW at up to DCI 4Kp24 or UHD 4Kp30 directly from the camera’s full-frame sensor

Why "fp is able to record"? Obviously it's the Atomos Ninja V who is able to record, not fp.

Kipplemaster: Can it be charged with USB? Or if travelling with this compact drone do you have to lug around the proprietary charger of similar size to the drone itself?

It could be charged through USB but having just the power source is not enough. You would still need a "proprietary charger", because the battery is not a simple cellphone battery. It doesn't just plug and charge, it has more complicated charging process with multiple cell balancing, inner resistance detection, maintenance modes etc.
