vFunct: I have never seen any mirrorless camera used at any press event.

Literally zero mirrorless cameras at fashion week.

It would be nice if pro's used more camera's like the A9. Nothing as annoying as the noise from mirrorslaps.

(unknown member): It really does not take much to get Sony fans excited.
They finally have a 600mm lens. Big deal!
Nikon released their first 600mm about 55 years ago!
I know,I know, the Sony is the "FUTURE LENS FOR TODAY"and Canon and Nikon lenses will stop working tomorrow!

You know Minolta had it's 600mm lens 60 years ago. And there is also the Minolta 600mm f4 and the Sony 500mm f4.

Yake: Some people are saying the cheapo $1300 RP has a "terrible" sensor -- the same one as in the 6D Mark II. How "terrible" is that sensor? Let's check at DXOMark.com! It was so bad that DXO gave the 6DII an 85 sensor rating. Coincidentally, the hot-selling super-duper Sony A7SII (was $2999, now $2198) ALSO got an 85 sensor rating from DXO.

Yake, This is comparing apples to oranges. The A7sII is a camera with low MP count (part of the DXO score is the nr of MP) But the A7sII is a specialist on it's own. It is intended for video and unmatched low light performance. It isn't meant to be a High MP monster. You have to compare camera's with +- same mp count and +- same release date. For example Sony a7III 96 score vs Canon eod 6d MKII 85.

Good there is some decent competition, it will only benefit us, the customers.

Pooya Rastin: Why not use both in conjunction in a camera? IBIS + OIS
I think processors have become powerful enough for that

Sony does that. Ibis and OSS work together.

Troubleshooter: So I‘ll stay with Fuji! No intervallometer in the A7 iii blames Sony!

Sometimes i don't understand Sony. My older A mount body had an intervalometer in the vieffinder. My A7Ii also has an intervalometer, but only visible if you change to Data display (can't see the intervalometer when framing trough viewfinder) Why they keep removing those handy features?

sknippen: I mostly own A mount lenses. So i would still be choosing an A mount Body over an E mount body. The adapter Sony has made for using screw drive A mount lenses on a E mount body is not worth much. Sony could learn from Canikon concerning the adapter and bring out a decent one.

Ok i didn't realize that... But i still thinks Sony could deliver an updated adapter to replace the crippled LE AE4 Adapter.

EXkurogane: 8K video might produce too much heat and hence unlikely?
Nonsense. Between 8k with overheating versus 4k with no overheating, I'm sure Sony fanboys will prefer the former!

These guys memorise their spec sheets well so that they can compare and look down on other brands. Having 8k would be a very solid reason to trash talk other brands, even if they never use it. :)

I don't weave those problems, i make use of it. I use it to heat my living room and to boil water. My FE400 mm f2.8 is a perfect chimney.

So marketing works. People will now buy Nikon Z series because it can have a 0.65 lens attached with autofocus. In real life almost nobody will buy such a heavy expensive lens. It is like people will buy a certain cheap EOS DSLR because the pro who shot my wedding had a Canon. Then they use the camera a few times at the children's playground in auto mode and expecting to have pictures like a pro. Then realizing the pictures are crap and from that moment only using their cell phone camera. (Then they come with statements like: My cell takes better pictures than my canon DSLR.)

Nice, i would like to have one, but will never happen. Maybe when i win the lottery i will buy just because i have too much money that i can't spend. I guess this Camera is for such people. They buy just because they can, not because they need it. See how a brand name can be important.

Yep glad we agree. In the meanwhile i go have some fun and take some crappy pictures with my mount crippeled A9 toy camera and my 400 f2.8 lens produced by a Playstation company. :)

Of course it sucks. What else did you expect. Pictures taken with a toy camera with a crippled and too small mount produced by a walkman and playstation company. Really my eyes are bleeding from watching to the A7III gallery.

Blind test color vs Nikon, Canon, Sony. Surprisingly Sony gets the most likes...? And that with it's ugly flat color's pictures taken with a toy camera with a crippled and too small mount produced by a walkman and playstation company.

mpb002: Sony has the PlayStation market
Canon has the professional and amateur photography market...

Sony has the digital image sensor market, and also the Playstation of course. And they have for H1 2018 40% market share in the US for Full frame. (Canon 33% and Nikon 26%) Now more competition from Canikon is a good thing. Competition drive's the evolution for new products and technologie's.

Fotoni: I don't know what Sony was thinking when they designed bodies of mirrorless FF. They are very compact which compromise ergonomics and high quality lenses don't balance well with it. High optical quality has to be heavy and large. If you are asking compact and light lenses, you are asking inferior quality. Why bother with FF then?

You mean this lens is inferior? It is probably the lightest 24mm f1.4 you can buy. The thing is that you have the choise. You can buy the large lenses, but you can also buy a smaller alternative. There are several light combo's possible with smaller high quality ( but slower) glas.

mmarian: I just wanted to express my admiration for both of these companies for investing into mirrorless system and come with pretty darn good first body of this kind for them. I know many would say that it was due to competition pressure but important is that the choice has just become greater and that alone can't be a bad thing. That is all I wanted to say.

Not actually abandoned A mount. They still bring very good camera's on the market. I don't know if their is another brand who brings 12 FPS with a 42 MP sensor and Hybrid autofocus on the market. Lens wise it is not like Canikon, but A mount has plenty of lenses and on second hand market you can find several jewels like the minolta 600mm f4. I am still a happy A mount user and like my A mounts camera's more then my E mount camera.

HenryDJP: This new Canon EOS R is in the category with the A7III. Anyone with a brain that is buying mirrorless won't buy this Canon over the A7III. So disappointed with Nikon and Canon.

Sony support is so lousy they replaced my lens on my rx100 for free after i dropped it and the lens was broken.
