David610: Both Pentax users will love this lens?

@David610
Me as one of those 2 Pentax users probably has a better 50mm 1.4 than you'll ever have.

Nabilon: Is this the same lens as the Tokina Opera? It looks very nicely balanced, it would be nice it is available to other mounts.

You are probably right about the coatings but the entire optical design is the same. Definitely a smart move to sell beyond the pentax customer base. The Tokina version is getting rave reviews, it might become a serious challenger to the Sigma 50 1.4

It is, the Tokina is the licensed version of the Pentax design.

There's influenza and then there are influencers.

Hipsters are people who lack the personality, imagination, courage or energy to be actually truly unique. It's kinda like the tribal tattoo of subcultures.

(at the same time not even a subculture)

Totally agreed!!

I don't think engineers give in to the supposed lens "...trend for being impossibly big and heavy..." but rather have engineer them to the best possible imaging characteristics for ever higher resolving camera sensors where size and weight is a byproduct unless the end price of the lens doesn't need to be considered.

The tears in my eyes after seeing the pricing create a nice bokeh, too!

@Gary Martin I was going to post a snarky reply until i saw your website! Love your work, man! What's your Instagram handle?

Mouth watering! Can't wait to see some high-res mode RAW samples! If the Panasonic 50mm 1.4 performance is in accordance with its price I will need some bigger bibs!

Roadrunnerdeluxe: I have the original of this lens, the Pentax HD-FA* 50mm 1.4. When i regularly get my mind blown by how amazing this lens is I am not thinking "Boy, was that heavy!".

If you aren't dedicated enough to your photography to lug around heavier gear for much better results, stay home and complain in photography forums instead.

Please do! Thank you!

left eye: I would buy the K-1II if the 50mm was a f2.8 (smaller, lighter, I don't need big balls in the background). Actually I've been asking for a modern 28mm f2.8 Pentax made.

Market forces, review forces, inferred forces want f1.4??? ...I don't, I want sharp and compact primes, even f3.5 is fine for me, shock horror f3.5!!

There's always the Pentax 50mm 2.8 macro, regarded one of the sharpest lenses out there. Not top built Quality but to IQ.

ZeBebito: Looks like a tacky old Tamron with the gold ring and all. If you are charging $1200 for a nifty at least make it look nicer.

Of course they could have made it look nicer but I believe it is supposed to be in line with the original * line lenses and supposed to be recognizable as such. I personally like it but everybody has design preferences, of course, which is totally legit!

@ZeBebito
In any way you are supposed to look through it, not at it, for it to work.

I thought this was pretty funny. "What, we can't take the exact same type of pictures that everyone else has taken? Waaaah!"

@Elonlukatski
As a photographer who seeks the special in the mundane I totally get it! Repeatable push-button magic! (cue: Antelope Canyon). Zero artistic process or effort just ready-made sensation that have been reproduced beyond death already.

powderhound: I just got the lens on Friday. It is amazing.

I agree! The combination of subject isolation and bokeh is something to behold! Definitely sharper across the frame at 1.4 than my Sigma 35mm Art.
