Those pancakes are mostly for APSC, at least I am not aware of any recent full frame pancakes in the 26-28mm range
-
The interesting thing about this lens is: most pancakes usually have a focal length that is close to the diameter of the sensor, hence that traditionally allowed for a very compact design. It seems...

thanks a lot, not what I wanted to hear, but that helps to settle expectations :)

Hi Erik, thanks for sharing your view. As I see you have an XT2 like myself. On that camera the AFC is barely usable with the 56mm, even AF-S requires proper technique. I have read numerous times ...

Hi Rivki, thanks a lot for posting these comparison files! I was looking them while having breakfast by myself so no worries at all :-) It is good to see how well the old lens stands up against its ...

I am feeling with you, it has become difficult to get an objective and sensible answer in this forum without having to justify oneself.

no no, please read the hole sentence :D "for people photography the drawbacks (strong field curvature, somehwat worse corner performance, CAs wide open) of the 35mm 1.4 are IMO negligible."

the lens was actually designed to work best at portrait distances. it is a traditional design where the entire lens group is moved for focussing. these designs are usually optimized for a ...
-
I had the same impression... maye it just lacks that supernatural tack-sharpness the 56mm WR is capable of, because it requires even higher SS, more steady camera holding or subject or all of it ...
-
may I ask how it performs in terms of AF? would you say eye AF works well enough to track playing kids?
-
I was in the same boat like you, spent endless time studying all the systems, read articles and watched YT videos. Then I just bought a mint used Z6 to tiptoe into the Z system. had quite low ...

Eye AF with the latest FW is absolute up to the task when taking pictures of for instance erratically running toddlers, even at close distances or with a Tele lens. There are more advanced AF ...

I would choose a lens with no field curvature that is optimized for close distances. Hence I’d give the edge to the macro lens in this case

Cheers thanks for sharing your opinion. Probably sooner or later I would want to try out the latest fuji primes anyways... and I believe the close focussing capabilities of the new 18 are more ...

Thanks vegetaleb, Och Elo that was the kind of first hand experience I was looking for. I like and enjoy both systems so I am looking which lenses compliment each other best from both systems. ...

have a look at the lab tests at digitalcameraworld.com and you'll see that at 5.6 there is not much inbetween the old and new lens. the mushy result probably comes from the xtrans sensor and...

they dont recommend the 56mm mk1 *wide open*. stopped down the sharpness of the two lenses should be minimal.
-
Thanks, I am aware of this test, but reality is probably not as simple as these charts imply. there are other tests (digitalkamera.de) where the 35mm S comes out on top vs. the new 23mm and ...

I was wondering if anyone had the chance to compare the new nikon mk2 lenses (speaking of 18mm 1.4 WR, 23mm 1.4 WR, 33mm 1.4 WR, 56mm 1.2 WR) against the corresponding nikon z primes? has fuji ...

the 35mm is definitely not louder than the 50mm and the focus ring should not have any play or feel much different than the one from the 50. i would certainly return the lens.
