Nikon is making currently the best lenses on the market with reasonable price point. 85mm promises as well. I dont know if this is due to z mount I guess yes but all Nikon Z lenses are really sharp, edge to edge and with almost no CA. I am really impressed!

Except if you buy a Sony APS-C camera with APS-C lenses, they wont work on full frame. They will fit, yeah, but will either vignette or be smaller resolution.

This whole "one mount" thing only applies if you buy full frame lenses and use them on your APS-C camera and later change to full frame camera. But who would buy a crazy expensive full frame 24-70 f2.8 and putting it on a A6500? What's the point?

Exactly the point! I bought leading that path APS-C DSLR, I only have a 50mm that can go to FF. So if I want to change from APS-C to FF, practically I have to sell most of my equipment.

Aleksa T: I see there edge to edge sharpness the best and almost no CA, in my opinion best sharpness and CA out of compared lenses in the test. Now Nikon can be compared with Canons concerning the edge to edge sharpness. I guess it's the mount size that can give you this.

@Arun H: I decide to believe my engineering background and Canon proved experience with wider mount size which I noticed through out the years.

In photography is all about light in every single aspect of it!

I mean, when I look at the images, they just don't look pleasent, image quality and dynamic range are behind e.g. D7200. Nothing new seen but the hype is like the AF was invented first time. Sony brought to camera world the hype existed only in mobile industry where they present the upgrade from iphone 6s to 7, like it is miracle...

@BlueBomberTurbo: this is wrong!!! They changed to Sony for D7200!!! D7100 is manufactured by Toschiba.

@steelhead3: sensors are produced by Sony semicondutcors, design is not Sony but Nikon's.

Wow perfectly straight lines at wide angle... Great Nikon optics! This Z mount was not commercial joke, those Z camers are giving best image quality out there in compact package and weight. Really big respect to Nikon engineers!

Tried today in shop Z6 and A7III.

First thing. Different feel in hand. Nikon has significantly better grip.

Second: buttons on Nikon are way better organized, you can use camera with one hand easily. You can run with it and be sure that it will not drop from hand. Fantastic feeling, really!!!

Third EVF: nikon evf is better than OVF! pixels are so densted that I cannot tell the different between ovf and evf.

Forth: In one shop a7 was not working, just z6. I had to the second one and wanted to test eye af but the guy in shop couldn't find how to turn it on. I tried myself, but menu was so complicated. Finally, seller said "Sony menu is so complicated".

Ok, and final thing. With LCD on Sony you can navigate through menu?Bad ergonomics of buttons and I cannot change settings through menu which has 100pages? No go!

Based on reviews I expected that a7iii is killer camera, but when you take it in hand, then it looks like cheap toy compared to nikon. I guess its marketing

All specs, tests and so on...

But when you look at the images taken with this camera... It's WOW... Edge to edge sharpness, dynamic range... And adding to that ergonomics, this camera is really fun to use. When you combine all these, you come to such good images as seen above. In my opinion, gear of the year as well, no doubt sir!

I really liked the way how calmly he presented the camera and his way of working. Really liked the camera and images that he showed are very good.

Aleksa T: First statement: Any camera today will give you very good photos and by looking at images, you'll never notice difference.

From my side, it is extremely important that camera has very good build quality. I look that at phones, but also on cameras. Nikon is symbol for this, was and still is (ask NASA). I'm really impressed with Z series, edge to edge sharpness, image quality, DR, Nikon can make f1.2 lenses finally or faster. Definitely big big advantage of Canikon for future.

When considering to buy new camera, I really look at the price of the lenses new and used. When talking about lenses, Canon is #1. Period. One who buys EOS R can buy extremely good lenses for less than buying new Sony ones. On second place is Nikon. Considering all this, this camera is absolutely fine for me, because strong points like ergonomics, toughness are very important because I bring camera with me all the time.

Prices of RF lenses are high, but on Canon you can adopt ANY EF lens, do you know how many lenses that it? It's more then 250 lenses... And that means, more offer less price.

Nikon has to make a adapter for D screw lenses which are still very good at reasonable price.

Oskar P: The Z6 is easily the camera of the year 2018 and could be for 2019 too.

Nikon really nailed it with superior ergonomics, video, IBIS, lens compatibility (sony cripples adapted lenses), and so much more.
IQ on ALL cameras is superb (Jordan says worrying about it is overrated, totally agree)

The Nikon has more accessories, better global support, and can share lenses with the best professional DSLRs on the planet without compromise.
D500 and D5 (the best AF tracking cameras period) owners can add mirrorless now for the best system possible.
Simply put, Nikon does more.

The Sony is OK, but poor ergonomics, past overheating issues, poor IBIS, slower operation, lesser video, lack of weather resistance, crippled support of DSLR lenses, etc. put in the middle tier.

@T3 and A7ii is known as capable autofocus camera? Not...
I mean, saying that EF lenses are working crap even on Canon, man, these lenses are best in business. Best lenses. Full stop. And beside that I don't consider A7ii as serious camera... A7III is different story...

@T3: you saw it in reviews that its not working same with an adapter! And nobody likes when these great features that you see on review like autofocus are not working, especially in low light situations. So this compatibility that you're talking about is not FULL. Only canon adapter for Canon works flawlessly. Z mount has brightest future because it has shortest flange distance on market, if you look in that direction.

Matsu: A careful examination of the studio test widget does not appear to support the image quality conclusions. At best the Sony and Nikon are equal. In some instances the Z6 is ahead even. Here's a comparo with D750, A73, EOSr and Z6:

https://bit.ly/2AhrERi

They made it all about the shadow push, but that is not the only meteric.

I hate these reviews on image quality. For past few years on every review canon is behind nikon and sony... I'm nikon user but I really think that canon images are simply looking better and I cannot explain. And this is what matters. When you print or upload your image, nobody will zoom in to look for details. Au contraire, they will just scroll down. Nobody todays is looking at image more than 5 sec... Its because everybody is making images. Thank you smart phones for that.

rhlpetrus: Nothing about built quality and weather sealing, important to many. A non-functioning camera, no matter how good it is in all aspects, is not good for anything.

That said, it looks to me, as a relatively longtime user of Nikon that the Z6 looks
Iike an excellent camera in all aspects. Re the banding issue, the most I ever used in practice in all these years re shadow recovery has been 2 EV push, with awesome results even with the now ancient D7000. The Z6 is much better in that regard, shadows are incredibly clean at that pushing level, so I will be happy with it. Cheers!

True that. Canon and nikon there beats sony. Really important factor if you care your camera with u everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE ๐Ÿ˜‚

Huh?

He just wanted to say that they are really close, and nobody would ever notice it on final image. Which is true.
