On the other hand, the VA version of this cam is still clearly the best one by far.

except *nobody* came here for your opinion Rob, or that of totally random and unnamed forum posters’

we come for dpreview’s expert tests and opinions to inform our OWN, and they made their choice crystal clear. trust that they’ve held orders of magnitude more cameras than you ever have

self-worth? you’ve repeated that one sentence 50+ times now as a personal signature (and nobody is even disagreeing with it?). i’m sorry but that’s just not normal

you keep holding on to that one sentence. we’ll hold on to the Award and make our own decisions thanks

....and now you speak for dpreview, it’s pathological at this point Rob. because that’s exactly what they did:

“ Yes, the lens is a fixed 28mm equivalent. No, the video mode isn't great, but this is a pure photography camera, capable of getting you images that larger, heavier or more complicated models simply won't.”

what “larger, heavier, more complicated” fixed lens compacts are they talking about? well...

2019 BEST Compact/Fixed Lens Camera:

Runner-up: Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VII

Winner: Ricoh GRIII

i agree. dpreview did nail it with utter perfection.

when it comes to cameras, technical capability comes SECOND

remember that.

sigh...

alas, Rob that article was written back in June. and yes there are plenty of better fixed prime lens cameras than the GR, I’d personally prefer an RX1RII, but they aren’t *compact*

as for dpreview’s CURRENT, Products Of The Year [2019], in the only article they’ve put the GR and RX in the SAME category....the BEST COMPACT / FIXED LENS CAMERA category...

“Despite their different shapes, sizes and prices, all of the cameras in this section cater to the same basic need: high quality imaging, in a compact form factor. Our RUNNER-UP THIS YEAR [2019] is Sony's best RX100-series camera yet.”

there it is. white on black. and no amount of trolling will change that i’m afraid. Ricoh Imaging has even put it on their homepage.

that’s enough facts for tonight ; )

no, not second, it was their favorite ‘pocketable option’. as ‘superior’ as it may be, the X100 is not pocketable

yeah the GR’s (and the X100’s) zoom absolutely sucks, as it has a prime lens. and I 100% agree there are better vacation cams than the GR

you’re unraveling again and likely to lose yet another thread

Why no mention of or comparison with the Mavic Air?

Clint Dunn: My answer to this question was 'none of the above'. A year ago I sold my RX100iii because I found my Mate 20Pro cell phone was 'good enough' and it's always in my pocket. The RX100 cameras although small still don't fit in your pocket unless you're wearing a jacket. So...if I am going to actually take a camera with me then it is my full size rig which is far better quality then any of the RX100 cameras.

among other things, that’s the biggest reason why I gave up on the RX100 series. loved the first one, but the II was already getting too fat for a pair of jeans (especially with the essential accessory grip) and they just kept getting more and more bloated ever since..

there are plenty of better jacket pocket cameras, and more pant pocketable cameras with better grips, controls, and image quality than the RX100s

...says the fanatic who dutifully pastes a carefully selected dpreview quote bigging up his chosen toy camera in every post, as a personal signature. not even in a forum, but in an article, who does that?

i’m not the netcop who’s deleted countless numbers of your threads or banned you from forums, but i’m certainly grateful for them ; )

someone who's not even aware enough to realize I'm not standing up for a brand or specific camera (like he's personally identified with doing) but all the people's intelligence he's insulting (including those at dpreview) for having valid, informed reasons to prefer whatever camera they choose to prefer

no, it really doesn’t. just caught this selective quoting of dpreview only when it suits his weird anti-ricoh agenda

someone who’s not even self-aware enough to realize I agreed with dpreview, the VII is the ‘most capable’ compact camera

DR absolutely does matter (especially in post). significantly larger pixels and sensor area provide this. you must not understand physics

except combined with the GR's lens performance and real dynamic range advantage it's not just "good quality", but "great" for a compact camera, some might even say "best"

but this article is about the RX100 series, not the GR, or your weekends

well the RX100 is not called the "best" at dpreview, its called the "most capable". those are distinct statements that others here echo

of course they're both limited by their compact form factor (?) but for people (and websites) who value image/lens quality and ergonomics over video capability and versatility in *this particular form factor*, the distinction has been made

thanks for proving my point, not seeing anything beyond numbers

you're blind to people (and websites) who don't value 4k/120fps video or 200mm tele over everything else. nothing's changed about the RX100MKVII since dpreview classified it as the *runner-up* to gear of the year....in *two* categories in fact

...it absolutely IS the most capable. a literal jack of all trades master of none. understand not everybody covets that

and yes, first batch loose scroll wheels explains why they have "as-new" refurbs in stock:

nope, nothings changed. its still dpreview's runner-up.

thats always been the problem, you confuse specs and features for greatness. dpreview and humans don't. gearhead numbers are your sole value system, which really says it all

re: ricoh refurbs, the first batch had cosmetically loose scroll wheels so they had those early ones on hand to refurbish them. new GR prices still stand, even on black friday/cyber monday
