Just adding for fairness, as the DPR article only references NASA:

"The James Webb Space Telescope is an international collaboration among NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA)."

AKH: Great video. Great camera.

Not a lot of people know this I think, but if you set the camera to movie mode, you can shoot JPEG images at the speed you set for the movie.

So for instance if you set video mode to 4k (3840 x 2160) and 60FPS (which is available through a firmware update according to the video) you can shoot JPEGS at 60 FPS or for HD (1920 x 1080) at 120 FPS.

Well, you would need 60 fps for something that is moving and because of the sensor's readout speed you end up with strong rolling shutter. As a comparison: I rarely used the mechanical shutter on E-M1 ii (even for BIF the e-shutter works well), but always have to switch on with Z6 ii for almost all moving targets (slow human motion like walking is OK)

Thanks for the excellent interview. Nikon shall do this more frequently to manage the expectations, especially for those who wait and plan to buy further equipment, but are frustrated by the lack of inforrmation.

biggercountry: I’ll admit that I have not used any other mirrorless full frame camera system but Nikon Z, but not once have I observed anything even remotely objectionable about how the Z series lenses focus. At least compared to my F mount lenses on a D750, they are whisper quiet and are as fast as I need them to be.

I’ll defer to the reviewer’s expertise of course - but to any prospective Nikon Z buyers, you should not be put off by autofocus performance or noise on Z lenses. DPR has to make a comparison point somehow to come up with a rating, but the more important point is that Z lenses work well, they are quiet, and they are reasonably fast.

I am coming from Olympus E-M1 ii and though it is not regarded to be one of the cameras with best AF / tracking it never held me back taking the shot I wanted (BIF, action, etc.). Now Z6 ii really feels like a class above and I actually like the AF interface and the option to engage tracking with an additional button (I mapped the start of the tracking to Fn1 and is engaged by half pressing the shutter release button). One dedicated button to directly switch between AF modes / areas would be a great addition.
Overall one should not pay too much attention to these small negatives because all cameras in this class are very good and will get the job done. Choose what you prefer ergonomically / emotionally and will like shooting with it. This is much more important.

HUN: I have been using my Z6 ii for a week now and I am amazed. First class ergonomics, excellent Z lenses, very very good AF (really!) and image quality. All these come at a reasonable price, hence the best value currently IMHO.

A few things that I miss, and I think they can be easily corrected through a FW update: blown highlights can not be seen during shooting (you have to switch to video mode), horizon and histogram can not be seen at the same time (one or the other) and the histogram is small, does not give accurate information.

That is not the same as a live view histogram. I would be OK with the JPEG based blinking or a better (more legible) histogram.

Matt FT: now that the DP-TV review is out, when can we expect to have the full blown review available on dp.com?
One thing worth mentioning. It's often mentioned that this camera is more competitive, price-wise, than the R6 for example. Though it's true in the US, it's priced very similarly to the R6 here in Switzerland, and probably elsewhere.... making it far less appealing.

In Germany (check idealo.de) R6 costs EUR 2630, Z6 ii EUR 1899. The same in Eastern Europe. You can probably buy from an EU based webshop, don't you?

Thanks, but I do not understand how can I get this histogram displayed in the Live View while shooting. Will you please explain?

Rahul_Sharma: I tried shooting a waterfall on long exposure with following settings:

1) ISO 100, min possible
2) f/16, narrowest
3) shutter speed, 1 sec

But the image was all washed out...i could see only white colour..

Any recommendations?

Use an ND filter...
