StillLearning: This should make the Sony owners happy for a little time. Reminds me of when a movie first comes out and takes the weekend. They advertise that they are the top movie in the world. Well enjoy it while they can. Still doesn't draw me to their product. In the 70's and 80's they really had products that would last. After that now so much. Remember it was Minolta that helped Sony get a leg up in the camera business.

" Do you want me to remind you of the crap TV's Sony made in the 90's."
I don't think than Trinitron Sony was crap TV at the time.

User3754336485: I progressed from the A6000 to the A7II to the A7RII to the A7RIII, acquiring lenses all the while. I'm loving the latest Sony's image quality and beautiful 4K video. Sony's tech has lead the industry (with the possible exception of Panasonic with video). As a photographer I'm loving it.

Depend of your style of photography. I don't do sport or wildlife so i'm perfectly happy with my A6000 actually and will not upgrade before it die.

cosinaphile: from industry last to industry leading .... should be interesting

i hope they make something compelling and wonderful .... and hope that some of those people who think a cellphone is all the camera they need will become camera owners one day so the great firms survive

People who think a cellphone is all the camera they need will never find interest for camera who cost +$2000.

mikaelwardhana: all the unnecessary hate reflect how shallow your bank account actually is and how insecure you are with other people's wealth.

Most of the people here (on DPR) can afford a Leica. We are not talking about luxurious car or house.
For some people, their love for Leica is all about the craft and the special use of a rangefinder and they have no need to argue with the Leica haters.
I feel sad for you for bringing such argument.

Robert Spanjaard: The Casio QV-100 was my first digicam. Just a very expensive gadget really, barely enough resolution to fill VGA-screens of that time. But since I bought it as a gagded (I was more of a computer nerd than photographer back then), it was enough for me. My second digicam, the Fujifilm Finepix 4800 Zoom, is the one that sparked my interest in photography.

Ah, still have somewhere one QV-200 than i bought for $5 in a year sale around 2005. Funny little camera with "shift lens" and a sensor of 0.25 MP.

Now, make a portrait of Angelina Jolie with the smartphone and one of Angela Merkel with the Canon and go ask peoples which one they prefer..

(And that's the reason I don't care too much about gears.)

Hard Truth: I would never buy the tiny Sony a7R III. That must be made for small Asian hands.

Well... I bet than the camera is bigger than your brain.

If you don't make a living on photography, in 2017, with so many good and "affordable" cameras on the market, what's the point of spending +$3000 on this kind of gear?

Nice but a bit boring, look like déja vu 1 million times.
In 2017; the only photos of landscape than i find interesting are the one made by drone, who give new possibility on composition.

Agree, just for the fact of not getting durst on sensor in a camera with fixed lens is a big plus.

Don't worry, from your beautiful country, you can still have a ton of fun with your actual camera. Camera like this D850 is interesting only for real pro-photograph.

Bears in landfills surrounded by flight instructors... that's a lot of serious pollution. Make me crying even more. :(
