  • Mine seems to do this also. I bought mine used and the focus ring has considerable play, so I though that was the cause. I asked about that here soon after I bought it and a couple of responders ...
  • Thanks Dean. He was the TC expert for sure. Miss him😢
  • It would certainly lose two stops of light, but I don’t think it would vignette badly on my K-3. It for sure would on the K-1 though. Thanks for the reply.
  • That does sound like something Ron might have tried, he was always experimenting with all sorts of combinations.
  • Haha! Even better, send me yours and I’ll try it. Only problem is, if it works well you may not get yours back😀. Seriously though, it would be cheaper than buying the Pentax 150-450 or the 560, ...
  • Created question thread Anyone tried 2 HD 1.4X on DA* 300?
The DA* 300/HD 1.4X combo is so good, even wide open, that I wonder if adding another HD 1.4X would be useful. Has anyone tried this? If so I’d like to hear about it. Thanks.

  • I totally agree. I often use the DA* 300 for closeups of butterflies, dragonflies and lizards, etc., with and without the converter.
  • On very small birds, just cropping often isn’t enough. I need to use the converter and crop. The DA* 300 plus HD converter combo is so good I can crop the resulting images considerably and still ...
  • It depends on what lens you use it on. Used on the DA* 300, you have a very high quality 420mm F5.6. It is so good that I can shoot it wide open with no discernible loss in IQ. BTW, I am not a ...
  • If you view images from both at 100%, the K-5 images look cleaner. However if you down size K-3 images to the same size as K-5 images, there is very little difference. This is not only my opinion, ...
  • Your copy of the 15 Limited must be better than mine. My 12-24 is much better in the borders and corners than my 15 Limited. True, the 12-24 isn’t great at 24, but I don’t use the long end much. ...
  • I have the 15 and the 12-24. In my experience the 12-24 is much better in the borders and  corners at 15mm than the DA 15 is, even at F8 or F11. It does have more CA than the DA 15, but is easily ...
  • Perhaps it's being closed out prior to release of 11-18. I just checked B&H and it seems to be out of stock.
  • I had the same choice a while back and decided to go with the 12-24 Pentax because all the tests I found showed it was better in the corners than the Sigma. Where was it on special. Just checked ...
  • The SDM motor in my DA* 300 failed while still under warranty and I sent it to Precision. It failed again about six months later, after repair warranty expired and I sent it to KEH. That was two ...

You may not like my comment, but here goes. For one thing, they are not efficient and would not be feasible without government subsidies. The are touted as clean, but manufacturing them is not ...
  • My K-3 just rolled over 50,000 shots in about 4.5 years and is still my primary camera. I shoot about 95% wildlife and full frame offers little benefit to me, since more cropping would be required ...
  • I get outstanding results with the DA* 300 and DFA 100 Macro. Have you micro-adjusted your lenses? Also, most converters are optimized to work best with long lenses.
  • You're right Mike. I hadn't followed the link...K mount it is.
