As for the cameras, it doesn't seem close at all. Fujifilm has the better looking stills, nicer ergonomics (though worse evf), and blows away Sony for video.
But I can see why DPR said it was closer with Fujifilm the winner.

I don't know of a single person who puts a standard FF zoom on an A6x00 body.
And since Sony doesn't make a FF 35/1.8 they have the affordable APSC 35/1.8.

It is funny how Sony owners hate APSC so much, the ones with APSC camera cant wait to ditch them for FF or pray for an imaginary A7000 that comes close to the XT3 or even an old NX1.

Zed Man: It looks like the Canon taking over mirrorless isn't enough to cover their loses in P&S and semiconductors.

Canon now sells 1 out of every 3 mirrorless cameras in Japan and 1 out of every 2 ILCs globally.

Canon is still very profitable, so it is funny how people are trying to spin it as they are not. Quick way to pick out the dishonest fan boys here.

Grapejam, you are smarter than that.

Only the stupidest moron would think most professionals buy their cameras on Amazon.

Most Professionals also don't buy cameras for systems with the worst global support.

Like you said, BCN shows Canon mirrorless outsells ALL Sony by 50% and that doesn't include Canon DSLRs (which also outsell all Sony mirrorless).

Sony barely has over 10% of ILC sales globally these days. Canon has almost 50%.
The Leica argument (only sells expensive cameras) shows desperation.

I was just at a pro soccer/football match yesterday.

I'd say 90% of the cameras were Canon on the field. The rest were Nikon.

We know Sony has the worst support of any manufacturer and Canon has by far the best professional support.
Only a tiny percentage of professionals shoot Sony, and for good reason. None of their cameras are fully weather resistant and their support is awful.

Sony even said privately they are expecting to lose market share to Canon this year.

It Sony were to ever start selling more FF cameras than Canon, their would be numerous press releases from Sony (like last year when only in the US, and only for a few months after 2 major Sony releases and 0 Canon releases Sony sold more - then Sony went silent after dropping back to 3rd).

GrapeJam: Since when did the thinking of "if you buy APS C, you'd want only APS C lenses because you want to stay with APS C" start? If anything I find that most people who buy APS C that bother to buy anything else, want to upgrade to full frame later.

That was always the bad part of E mount, having to "settle", and use lenses from other systems even though there were restrictions.

Sticking with a native system just makes more sense.

ProfHankD: I agree that these are very close in a variety of ways.

Fuji definitely has the nice retro look going, but I'm always shocked by folks saying how much they love the Fuji film emulation. They are a very accurate emulation, but that includes precisely mimicking the more limited DR of the films as well as the colors. The DR clipping drives me nuts and, honestly, I never was a fan of Fuji film colors. I wish Fuji would put their obviously good color science into a color choice that puts the most accurate possible color and maximum DR into their JPEGs.

Still they look nicer than Sony.

And since lightroom has them also, you can tweak your RAW files after apply the Film color profiles. Best of both worlds really.

The seamless transition to FF is a lie.
You end up replacing all your APSC lenses anyway.

But more importantly, there is no reason these days for nonprofessionals to switch to FF. FF is the like 8K TVs. Its manufacturers finding gullible people to waste money on something they don't need.

The Sony 35/1.8, 50/18, and standard zooms don't work well on FF. You end up replacing most of your lenses anyway.

And with software improvements and AI, APSC is more than good enough these days and almost always cheaper and often more portable.

Google Topaz Labs AI to see what I am talking about when it comes to SW.

Grapejam

Which standard F2.8 zoom is available for the Sony APSC? Sony greatly neglects APSC.

Now with Sony proclaiming APSC is not their primary focus, we have another reason to pick Fujifilm.

Or are the fan boys being fan boys and embarrassing themselves again?

Image of A6300 showing the 1 and 2 custom settings that were removed on the A6400.

MILC man/Dan keeps lying and saying those controls were not removed from the dial.
Pretty obvious they are gone one the A6400.
Dan just keeps humiliating himself, poor old man Dan.

Lol!

MILC man caught in another lie.

Sony DID remove the C1 and C2 controls from the control dial.
You really humiliated yourself with that one, hahahaha!!!!

https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/sony-a6000-vs-a6400-top.jpg

Please tell us again about how C1 and C2 are still there. Clearly they are not and you look as stupid as ever. Keep lying Dan.

Oh, and DPR still lists the D5 and D500 as having the most reliable AF. Too bad they have lots of real sports lenses and Sony has at most 2 and 1/2, so good AF means nothing for Sony.

What's next Dan? Lying and saying Sonys are fully weather sealed and dont over heat?

The Fat Fish: Great update, the X-T3 is proving to be an incredible camera. All Fuji needs now is:

1) Drop X-Trans
2) Add IBIS
3) Update 23mm 1.4 and 56mm 1.2
4) Improve battery life
5) Improve lens QC

That would make an already great system the perfect APS-C system.

For over 3 years the dumbest and most gullible people thought an A7000 was coming any day.
They kept humiliating themselves.
Last fall they really embarrassed themselves again because they believed rumors the A7000 was coming in September.

Now Sony explicitly said sorry the A6400 is the camera people were waiting for. It was "their answer", the mini a9.

But keep humiliating yourself if you want...like you have been for years. :D

I wonder if their drop in sales is as bad as Sony Germany predicted for Sony this year.

With a global market share that just increased to 49.1% last year Canon will be fine.
Sony on the other hand saw their market share fall to as low as it was 10 years ago (ouch).

And really, making profits of half a billion dollars isnt as bad as what happened to Sony's smartphone business. (Double ouch).

The ignorance here is stunning.

150mm F3.5 lens are not as small as 75mm F1.8 lenses on M43.
And 200-800mm lenses using same tech of any focal length wouldn't be as short as a 100-400 M43 zoom.

It sure was nice of Sony to finally release that mini A9 called the A6400. Sony is done with APSC now for another 3 years.

Sony said the A6400 is the mini A9. It is an APSC camera with the A9 focusing.
But APSC is now a 2nd tier system for them.
The A6400 was their answer to the rumors of a new APSC camera. Sony directly said this.

Those who thought an A7000 was coming the past few years were delusional and very gullible. They were suckers for fake rumors and very much embarrassed themselves.
Were you one of them???

Sony Germany also admitted their market share is falling. They have 3 strong competitors. Their FF mirrorless market share is expected to fall below 50% in the next year, and as we saw they are giving up on APSC. The A6400 was junk from the parts bin with some nice SW, but it was not what anyone wanted.

Sony said the A6400 would be released in 2019.
The latest interview explained the A6400 was the camera they talked about and was "the answer" to those asking for a new APSC camera.
But now APSC will play 2nd fiddle with Sony.

In Japan Sony is only the 3rd largest seller of mirrorless cameras. Even Canon sells 50% more mirrorless cameras than Sony and that was BEFORE the R series.
Fujifilm sells even fewer, but their market share is growing while Sony's appears to be falling.

Dont feel bad for Fujifilm. They sell more cameras than Sony and it is not even close.
If fact it appears Fujifilm is growing their small ILC marketshare, while Sony is losing marketshare (according to Sony Germany).

Anyway, there is no A7000 nor will there be any time soon. So the Xt3 is still by far the best APSC mirrorless camera and the XT30 is a close 2nd....and they both have native F2.8 zooms!

Sony directly said the APSC camera they mentioned was the A6400.
That was their answer.

They also said APSC is now a 2nd tier system.

This is what they said about A mount too.
Sony APSC E mount is the new A mount.

No new lenses and FF comes first. There are no F2.8 zooms and Sony will not make any for APSC.

Btw, an MFT camera with a 2.8 zooms outperforms an APSC camera with an F4 zoom. Too bad Sony only offer stripped down video too. Again the new A mount.
