stevevelvia50: The Olympus 40-150 2.8 has the same focal length, weighs half of what this lens weighs, and will be just as sharp! the difference in f stops isn't significant. Marketing is a funny thing.

stevevelvia50, I've owned all of the mentioned Canon lenses and I can 100% assure you that, yes, there is an absolutely major difference between f2.8 and f5.6 in OOF rendering as well as the obvious 2 stops of light! Sure, if your style is to close down to f5.6 all the time, then this would not be a lens I'd even consider. But if you need it, you need it. There's a reason people buy big lenses, and it isn't because they're ignorant (ok, sometimes it is).

If you apply crops and equivalence on the focal length, you have to on the aperture as well. Fuji = 300mm f3, Oly = 80-300 f5.6. So, yea, the aperture IS significant. Just look at the difference between a Canon 300 f2.8 (5.3 lbs) and 300 f4 (2.6 lbs) and 70-300 f4-f5.6 (2.3 lbs for L, 1.3lbs for non-L)!
noneyabidnis: I'm so very excited about this camera!!! I've always loved taking pictures and got a used Nikon D700 a year ago, but now the D800 will allow me to become a true professional. I don't think I want to do photography for a living, but I like knowing that all my pictures will have that professional looking quality about them.
Look at his Avatar (and posting history)...says it all...
