  • Thanks, you have just proven our point - as can be seen optimum sharpness is attained at . . f/4 to f/4.5 with the 4.9 µm pixel D800 while it is attained at . . f/5 to f/5.6 with the 7.3 µm pixel D4 ...
  • So am I by the way.
  • He also clarified that he was refering to a higher pixel pitch. So the topic is pixel sharpness, not picture sharpness. I am sensing that you get the last word a lot of the time, but not because ...

Diffection of the lens will obviously be the same, but the way it affects pixel sharpness will kick in sooner http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/diffraction-photography.htm
  • Both have their positive sides, but I did not see any DPR staff mention the ability to look through the OVF for hours on end without draining a single electron from the battery!

  • I can see there was a hole in it, so technically it must have had an apperture, but it was hardly usefull as a pinhole camera, as the apperture was rather to big for that. So what did this news...

  • Hi again I am also the happy owner of both a 70-200 (4.0 IS) and 300 2.8 L IS mkI - as well as a 100-400 L IS mkII (and 400 2.8 L (no IS)) Usually only one of these lenses come along in the pack at ...

    3 lenses compared at various focal lengths and apertures (1) EF-M 15-45 mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM on EOS M5 (24 megapixel) (2) EF-M 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS ...
  • I previously posted an analysis demonstrating that my faithful EF 24-105 mm f/4.0 L IS had become defect after repairing a broken flex cable : https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/59041254 Now, a ...

  • So, are we to deduce that you are also mocing to full frame? Then your best option must be the Tamron 85 mm f/1.8 VC which is incredibly sharp http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Tamron-85mm ...
  • Thank you all for input - I have given up on repairing the defect specimen. I contemplated ordering the STM version to save 140 gram, but ended up buying the old mk-I version from eBay - there was ...
  • It depends what you need the digitized images for? With your 20 Mpix camera you could crop down to i.e. 10 MPix, which is likely as mush resolution as you will have in most of these slides if they ...
  • Hi I digitized thousands of slides this way as well, and I think the results were in fact a lot better than what I obtained with my Nikon Coolscan 2000. I did build a slide holder out of cardboard ...
  • Hi - yes, I was thinking along these lines as well. I also oped not to have mine modified to avoid the internal reflections for the same reason. So I guess it has to be a new lens then. Rgds Kjeld
  • Created discussion thread EF 24-105 mm f/4.0 L USM gone defect
Hi I have a EF 24-105 mm f/4.0 L USM which I used to consider a very good specimen. See a old analysis from 2007: http://www.acapixus.dk/photography/24_to_105_5D/50.htm Some time ago the flex cable ...
