qwertyasdf: Wow, first is the 2x macro lens, then a 15mm macro, then this lens, with a very interesting "Magic Shift" adapter (Interested to see how it works)
No matter how much I dislike the Chinese, this company is bringing out innovation after innovation in a field that is supposed to be creative.

Thank you to the Chinese you make our life so simple.

if you want to know how the k1 sensor capable try to shoot under exposure at raw then open the file on Lr. you will find that the sensoe captured all the details. that is what happened to me yesterday night i forgot to remove the nd filter from the lens when tried to capture a very limited event when i returned home i found all fills are very dark but wait the sony sensor is here!
yes amazing dr.and this is what i want from a camera. kudos to pentax!

BeaverTerror: Not interested in any move toward larger sensor sizes by Fuji. APS-C is the right balance between image quality, size, weight, and cost. I entered the Fuji system with the XT-1 when it was first released. At the time it was either the Fuji or a Sony A7.

I'm mostly a prime shooter. Let's look at the three most important prime focal lengths from both manufacturers.

35mm:
Fuji has the 23mm F1.4 (around F1.87 equivalent) at $900
Sony has the 35mm F1.4 at $1600, or the 35mm F2.8 at $800.
Comment: The fast Sony lens is difficult to justify and the slow Sony lens is absurdly overpriced. Fuji wins.

50mm:
Fuji has the 35mm F1.4 (around F1.87 equivalent) at $600
Sony has the 50mm F1.4 at $1500; the 50mm F1.8 at $250; and the 55mm F1.8 at $1000
Comment: Sony has this focal length well covered and wins.

85mm:
Fuji has the 56mm F1.2 (F1.6 equivalent) at $1000
Sony has the 85mm F1.4 at $1800
Comment: Almost double the price to go from F1.6 to F1.4? I don't think so.
Fuji wins

If you are referring to size and weight I think Hasselblad is the answer with it's new MF mirror less.

Link | Posted on Jul 14, 2016 at 18:04 UTC

Good writing and thoughts.
I think fuji will catch Hasselblad nearly. You got a quick conclusion that the xt2 is excellent camera!
Does that mean that it will be rewarded the DP gold award.

In reply to:

Medex: i did my own test today an hour ago. Conditions:
1. The lens Pentax FA* 85 f1.4 - screw drive.
2. ISO 800, about 6:30 PM.
3. Av regimen.
4. AF-C SEL9 regimen.
5. Small JPEG (12 Mpix) to not overfill buffer during test shot series.
6. Exposure 1/500.
7. F 5.6.
Result: The best result was 29 in-focus pictures out of 30.
It is more than 95 percent hit rate.
The series of pictures is available on my facebook. User name Mindaugas MG-efoto.
Another real-life test was done with aperture f1.4. 14 shots in series, 12 - in-focus. The last two are out-of-focus and that is logical - very thin DOF. The series is also available on my FB.
In my opinion, the best result is when you start shooting the object in-focus already and use AF-C SEL9, not the single point. I did not try SEL27. You simply should keep your moving object in the 9 point focus area during shooting.

i got similar result when using fa 77 ltd with the same method.
3 in focus and one out focus. aperture was 3.2 and subject was my kid playing with his small ball inside the room.

Is that the lens or the model?
From the model pic I will not read any thing else because it is pretty clear that you give the lens a positive credit from the beginning.
Things are known from the beginning!!!!

Chris M Williams
......
Hi Chris
I'm wondering are reviewing the camera or the system?!
Did you do that with Sony and fuji when they first came to the mirror less market with only kit lens or with Samsung.
I think it is fair when reviewing a camera just put the conclusion on the camera only not the whole system.
..............

Keep in mind that when we made this statement we are referring to the lack of high quality full frame lenses that can get the most out of the 36MP Full Frame sensor. Sure there are tons of K-mount lenses out there but many of them will not be able to successfully utilize the sensor technology in the K-1. We've already stated this several times in the review.

I will not accept this review even they will give k1 gold award plus 5 stars.
The impact has been happened.
If the score is from 100 I will give k1 99 points
1 negative point only for the af .
The 99 are for:
PS
SR
AA moire
Innovative lcd
Solid body and compact design
Excellent DR
Excellent price
Huge details
PEF raw
DNG raw
Unique pentax features/TAv. green button./
Ability to use every k mount lenses with SR.
300000 shutter life.
A system support wr from the kit lens to the pro.
Very easy system and very customized camera.
....
But the af system is not at the same league with competitors.
As a journalist I will write the conclusion like that.
Sorry Rishi it should be written like that.
It should be balanced.

If I wrote this report will be positive especially with regard to the lenses availableI will say that Pentax lenses are wide from crop da to full frame. But if I am going to be negative as you did i will say a few lenses are available.
I remember when you reviewed the first fuji xpro 1 you tried to encourage fuji and their fans that the xf system will be grown .a similar things are mentioned about Samsung system.
Why on earth put a negative impact on k1 because the listed lenses are reviewing a camera or a whole system.
Did you do that when reviewing a lens. Do you you mention a system or a camera.

kobakokh: exept sport photography, this is a best camera in the world, and in studio or outside static situation you can get photos like medium format cameras, even better, by pixel-shift technology... camera is real weather-saled,... pentax 15-30 (=tamron 15-30/2.8) lens is BEST in class... with 24-70 and 70-200 + some lim and two macro lences you can get complete set for any kind of photography except sport... and camera is just 1800 USD! For some other kind of photography there is Canon and Nikon systems in twice and more prices... Again: for landscape (including true astro!) and studio photographers nothing is better then this pentax... in the rain, cold weather there is nothing like this pentax, for high resolution and true colod photos there is nothing like this pentax, and there is nothing in this price also... take it and go to photography...

It would be better if Rishi of dpr summed it up like this. Then I will accept his result of the claim of poor af. It is the writer not the reviewer.

//Limited uses for Pixel Shift Resolution shooting modes//
when you turn pros to cons!!!!
pentax gives this solution for free
accept it or let it but dont blame because it is so kind and not stingy.
you can circulate that on all negatives mentioned:Poor Autofocus performance
No dedicated AF point selector (though it can be set as four-way default)
Limited modern full-frame lens selection
Limited uses for Pixel Shift Resolution shooting modes (static environments)
Limited Raw support for Pixel Shift Files
Low-spec video and limited focus control in video mode
Nested menu layout
Limited control customization
Poor default JPEG settings

ozturert: So K1 is a typical Pentax camera: Boat load of functions, excellent ergonomy, very good image quality, inexpensive for what it can do, but bad AF performance (worse than competition).

i dont find the words/bad.poor/the right describtion.may be it is not like competitors. who needs d5 focus must pay 5k$

i have had k1 since month+.i can assure that k1 is the best pentax dslr ever considering af. i also have d610 since nearly a year it is good camera but it cant lock the focuss at dim light. k1 can lock the focus easy.
k3 stayed with me 6 months and i sold it because i never satisified with it . most k3 pics was blured and not sharp. with k 1 i get sharp and clarity photos when tracking my kids using the 33 focus points.

fair enough review. pentax knows what is its weak area/AF/.
for pentaxians we know that k1 is not d5 it is d810 like.
do you think d 810 is for action photography.
who said a 36 mp full camera should be a sports camera!!
i accept k1 as it is for.
