Cheapo Marx: Nothin' here I can't get at f/8 or /11 with my current gear.

But I love the Happy Dog!

the point is the photographer that made the pictures, not the quality of the camera.

Toms cat: I have just downloaded the RAW file at 200ASA for the K-3 mk111 and looked at the image compared to my K-3 from the Studio scene comparator .Opening up using Acdsee , the image looked great all over , a bit more contrast and colour, and the detail was slightly better than the K-3 .I am a bit perplexed as the studio scene looked really ordinary when using the site .Haven't done the same with the JPEG as I only shoot RAW .

I downloaded the RAW files too... The 55* used for the shooting is the problem, not the camera

aiki76: DPReview, please, redo the test using a better lens. Look at the chromatic aberration, even at the center of image. It's clearly a lemon...

DavidB77... no, sorry, you're wrong

aiki76: With the K3II you used the same lens, getting same awful results. I have the K3II and I perfectly know its performance at 100 ISO. I'm absolutely sure that the images I get from the camera at 100 ISO are outstanding, clearly better then the results of your studio scene at 100 ISO. So, please, be correct and professional and redo the test with a better lens

DavidB77 I also downloaded thedark scene... the same problems due to the lens: look at the chromatic aberration and the loss of detail at the corners... Just take a different, more modern and more appreciated lens and see the result. Take the DA 35 macro or the DFA 50 1.4 and tell me the differences

DavidB77, I downloaded the RAW file at 100 ISO. Lens is not fine, I guess

A note for every one: take these information with a grain of salt. One thing where Pentax has ALWAYS performed very well / better than competitors is image quality. It is simply unbelievable that this body fails at low ISO, while every people that is trying this camera refers of great image quality. If I can spend a cent, I'll bet on some problem of the test

FantasticMrFox: Fascinating! I had no idea that focus peaking mode existed, and neither the IR simulation. While the K3 III may not lead the field in any of the main categories (AF, image quality etc.), its capabilities and entire design philosophy, the build quality, enormous viewfinder, customisability and all those little and big features make it perhaps the most 'photographer oriented' camera ever to be designed.

Pentax image quality has always been on top, and the dynamic range measurement of the K3III pose it on top of the category, again...
AF seems also very competent, this time. So, very good news for pentaxians

I don't see these images really helpful, it's impossible to make judgment of a camera with these images... Cheap or average standard lens, shooting with full light, no high ISO, no particular stresses to the sensor... Mah

I'm absolutely confident that the RAW file of this K3III will be super good, following the long tradition of high image quality of Pentax. I'm pretty enthusiast of the new AF system, that finally seems accurate and fast... so let's start to save money for this!

CD-RIPer: I don't think there is any sense to buy K-3 mk3 instead of D500 except a case you already hava a lot of Pentax lenses.

@dpthoughts where, exactly, in the video, you see that the k3III is horrible for faces? what minute please?

Dynamic range and high ISO performance are largely better on K3III than D500, plus the K3 III has a 5.5 stops of in-body stabilisation and other great features, like astrotracer, pixel shift..
AF of the K3 iiI is impressive, too

madbrain: Nice video. I haven't seen the camera. But I have seen the specs. And I have talked to others on Pentaxforums about it.

As a K-1 II user, I'm nonplussed by the following aspects of the K-3 III :
1) of course, first and foremost, it's only APS-C and not FF
2) the rear screen is fixed vs articulated.
3) the new camera no longer has the ability to use AA batteries, even with the D-BG8 battery grip . All my previous Pentax cameras have allowed the use of eneloops : K200D (with battery grip), K-R, K-30, as well my current one, the K-1 II with the D-BG6 battery grip.

it's APSC but the dynamic range and high ISO performance is better that that of the K1 II, that's absolutely stunning

marc petzold: Remember, the Lens being used here for sample images is the somewhat older 16-85 Zoom, which is by itself a fine Pentax Zoom, but not the brand new HD Pentax DA* 16-50/2.8...which is yet to be released at a later date....info about that Zoom here, for example:

https://pentaxrumors.com/2021/02/24/ricoh-officially-announced-the-development-of-a-new-hd-pentax-da%E2%98%8516-50mm-f-2-8-ed-plm-aw-lens/

Good night.

the 16-85 is a good lens with fast AF, it's a good choice, for a preliminary video review in my opinion

Raist3d: I gotta say- kudos to Pentax for vastly improving their AF. This was my main pet peeve on their DSLR's, and it's great to see they have vastly improved on this.

Also Pentax as usual giving a best in class design in usability. Probably the most underrated aspect of Pentax. Even the Pentax Q was pretty easy to use and full featured.

Some people is focusing on the word "consistently", instead of watching the video with open mind. What I see in the AF-C pictures made with the K3III is that all of them are on focus, may someone explain me what is exactly their problem?

What is confusing in the video is the sequence of images taken with the Kp (note - not with the K3III - ), where half pictures were out of focus. I think that this part of the video shouldn't be there

tinetz: Looks good. Fair first take.

I find it interesting that it has to be compared with many different cameras and this shows what an amazing package this is.

There might be the D500 which is Nr 1 in AF and nominal battery, but in image quality and in features like SR etc. it falls short. There might be the Fuji with good IQ but, as was said are at least matched in that. And they probably fall short in AF and especially battery life. And some people might just love the amazing large magnification optical viewfinder and some Pentax specialties like Pixel shift and Astrotracer.

A very well rounded package and a very welcome contender on the market. Welcome, I like to have more choices.

The comment says K3III falls consistently below D500, but what I see in the video is that all the images taken in AF-C with the K3III was on focus, exactly like those of the D500. It's a great improvement

I understand Pentax is small, even negligible, in the photographic business, but I think they deserve respect, because of their history and because of the quality of their
currentt products, even with their limited ecnomic resources.

So I think you should at least be correct in your statements, avoiding to share WRONG info.

The dfa 50 1.4 Is Ricoh design, NOT Tokina, like most of the new lenses, that are all high quality glasses, likes the 11-18, the 85 1.8, etc.

The k3iii may not be your choice, but seems a very good camera, on paper, so please give respect to the brand and to the people that like it. Just respect, Is It so difficult?
