Having completely given up on getting the SSD in the Optical Drive slot to boot I have now replaced the original 2TB HDD with the cloned 500GB Samsung SSD. The mounting hardware I bought to allow ...
  • Maybe you can be more explicit about what you mean by "others are not worth it" - what did you think you were missing? Maybe post an example. If you are specifically looking for landscapes and you ...
  • Thanks for continuing to think about this. Had I known that the SSD was not going to boot in the optical drive bay I might have explored the FireCuda option but now I'm going to live with what I ...
  • Yes - just sockets Maybe there is cabling in there somewhere - but without confidence that it would do any good I'm reluctant to take the machine apart any further to look. It would mean a lot more ...
  • One of the many software programs that I downloaded to help with the cloning claims to be able to partition drives without loss - here is a link to the tutorial: https://www.partitionwizard.com/hel ...
  • The side of the caddy that you can see in the picture is identical to the same side of the optical drive. The black plastic cover unclips from the optical drive and clips on to the caddy. The ...
  • I don't know how useful these will be as the actual connection is hidden behind multiple layers of casing which do not need to be removed. Here is the caddy with SSD installed: and here are photos ...
  • Assuming you're not talking about RAID 0 - what is it for?
  • After trying all the suggestions in this post (and trying software from Samsung, Mini Tool and Macrium) I have now given up attempting to clone the SSD. Its being used for the following: - All the ...

Macrium had the same effect as Samsung and Mini Tool - it just took longer than the other two.
  • This may be true but I don't think I ever see my computer without any disk activity at all.
  • Replied in OS cloning
Tried the software in your link but it had the same effect. Once I try and boot with the cloned SSD it doesn't find  an operating system. Thanks anyway.
  • Replied in Progress so far
Its been a case of good news / bad news. I ended up getting a 500GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO drive from amazon and a borrowed second drive caddy which was originally intended for a Dell laptop. Physical ...
  • Thanks - I prefer to keep my data locally on a fast SATA connection. Having a combination of HDD and SSD would seem to give the best combination of speed and cost with current technology.
  • Thanks for replying - I would prefer extra, faster storage rather than having an optical drive that I rarely use.
  • Its detailed in the manual: https://www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/seagate-laptop-fam/laptop-sshd/en-us/docs/100802299e.pdf
  • I went ahead and requested it. MS is unlikely to know or care which drivers you are using and whether they are current.
  • Amazon (at least in the UK) often has multiple listings for the same product - sometimes from different vendors but sometimes both showing as sold by Amazon. Given that product in your first link ...
  • Maybe its a terminology thing - it would seem that SSHDs have three levels - a relatively small primary cache, a larger SSD storage and the spinning drive. In the Seagate FireCuda case it would be ...
  • The Seagate FireCuda drives appear to be available up to 2TB in size with 8GB of NAND storage.
